…22 Autonomous Communities Declare Genuine Love and Support for His 2027 Enugu Guber Bid
The people of Awkunanaw Clan, comprising 22 autonomous communities across Enugu South and Nkanu West Local Government Areas, have declared their genuine love, confidence and support for their son, Sir Chinyeaka Ohaa, ahead of the 2027 Enugu State governorship election. The historic gathering of elders, traditional stakeholders and thousands of indigenes was held at the clan’s ancestral home, Ihuani Okunano, Ndi Uno Obuoffia, where Ohaa was entrusted with an authentic traditional ‘Ofo’ as a symbol of trust, heritage and victory. The presentation was described as more than a political endorsement, having been carried out through the established traditional institutions and custodians of Awkunanaw, reflecting the organic and culturally genuine will of the people.
The ceremony was led by 104-year-old Chief Emmanuel Agwa Onovo of Akegbe Ugwu (Okwuo), the oldest man in the clan, who commended Ohaa’s public life and philanthropy, including his interventions that have touched hundreds of lives and the construction of the Akpasha Town Hall. Chief Onovo explained that the ‘Ofo’ serves as a spiritual link between the people, their ancestors and God, as well as a symbol of authority and protection. Another respected elder, 98-year-old Chief Mark Ngene, former Director in the Enugu State Local Government System, described Ohaa as a trusted son of Igboland, saying the presentation represented a sacred act of traditional arming rooted in truth, trust and an expectation of victory.
Receiving the ‘Ofo’, Ohaa thanked the Awkunanaw elders, the people, NDC candidates and supporters for the confidence reposed in him. He said the sacred symbol was given to him by the Council of Elders and recognised traditional custodians representing the 22 autonomous communities. Ohaa recalled that the same location had historically been associated with the presentation of the ‘Ofo’ to prominent political figures, citing former Anambra State Governor Jim Nwobodo in 1979 and former Senate President Ken Nnamani in 2005. He declared: “With this ‘Ofo,’ I am now fully prepared to go for the 2027 governorship election in Enugu State and win seamlessly to the glory of God.”
