Ahead of the 2027 general elections, candidates of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Enugu North Senatorial Zone have intensified efforts to position the party for a decisive electoral breakthrough in Enugu State, declaring their readiness to provide a new direction in leadership and governance.

The candidates made their position known during a strategic consultative meeting held at the residence of Hon. Dr. Hilary Onyishi (Ikemba) in Nsukka, where they reviewed the political outlook ahead of the 2027 elections and resolved to work collectively to strengthen the NDC's structures and broaden its support across the senatorial zone.

The meeting brought together prominent NDC candidates contesting various elective positions, including Rt. Hon. Dr. Patrick Asadu (Osuofia), candidate for Enugu North Senatorial District; Hon. Dr. Hilary Onyishi (Ikemba), candidate for Nsukka/Igbo-Eze South Federal Constituency; Hon. Barr. Fidelis Ani, candidate for Igbo-Etiti/Uzo-Uwani Federal Constituency; Hon. Ejike Alumona, candidate for Udenu/Igbo-Eze North Federal Constituency; Hon. Amos Amedi Agbo, candidate for Nsukka West State Constituency; Hon. Harrison Ogara, candidate for Igbo-Eze South State Constituency, as well as other NDC candidates for the Enugu State House of Assembly.

The gathering was marked by a strong message of unity and political determination, with the candidates reaffirming their commitment to the NDC and its stated vision of competence, accountability, inclusive representation and people-centred governance.

They also pledged their support for the party's Presidential Candidate, His Excellency Peter Obi, and the NDC candidate for Enugu State Governor, His Excellency Sir Chinyeaka Ohaa (Odalije).

According to the candidates, the 2027 election represents an opportunity for the people of Enugu State to demand a new political direction and elect leaders who will place the interests, welfare and aspirations of the people above personal and partisan considerations.

They stressed that their objective extends beyond winning individual elective positions, saying they are committed to building a coordinated political movement capable of delivering effective representation and sustainable development across Enugu North Senatorial Zone and the state at large.

The candidates further emphasised the need for discipline, cooperation and collective responsibility among party members, describing unity as critical to the NDC's ambition of emerging as a major political force in Enugu ahead of the 2027 polls.

They outlined key areas of focus, including accountable leadership, youth empowerment, economic opportunities, infrastructure development, inclusive governance and sustainable growth.

The Nsukka meeting therefore served as a strategic mobilisation point for the NDC candidates, as they seek to consolidate their structures and translate growing political enthusiasm into electoral strength across the zone.

With the candidates presenting a united front and openly declaring their ambition to secure the confidence of voters at the polls, the NDC is increasingly positioning itself for a major contest for political power in Enugu State in 2027.

The candidates concluded by reaffirming their determination to work together, mobilise the electorate and present the NDC as a credible alternative capable of providing quality leadership and people-oriented governance in Enugu State.

Their message from Nsukka was unequivocal: the NDC is mobilising, uniting its candidates and preparing for a serious push to take over the political leadership of Enugu State in 2027.
