The Executive Chairman of Nkanu East Local Government Area and ALGON Enugu State Chairman, Hon. Sydney Okechukwu Edeh, has reaffirmed the readiness of all Smart Green Schools in the council area to commence academic activities by September 2026, as the facilities near completion and are being equipped for use.
The council chairman gave the assurance on Monday, June 29, 2026, during an inspection tour of the Smart Green Schools and Type-2 Primary Healthcare Centres across Nkanu East Local Government Area.
According to Edeh, the inspection was part of the council's commitment to complement the education reforms of His Excellency Barr Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, the Executive Governor of Enugu State , aimed at repositioning the education sector and establishing Enugu as a leading state in educational excellence in Nigeria.
During the tour, the chairman assessed the level of work at the Smart Green Schools, where the installation of learning equipment and other facilities is currently underway. He also visited several Type-2 Primary Healthcare Centres to evaluate their readiness ahead of full commencement of operations.
Expressing satisfaction with the quality and pace of work, Edeh stated that the projects have reached advanced stages and are on course for completion within the stipulated timeline.
"I am impressed with the progress recorded across the Smart Green Schools and the Type-2 hospitals. From what we have seen today, all the Smart Green Schools in Nkanu East are on track to receive pupils by September this year. This demonstrates the unwavering commitment of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah to transforming education and healthcare in Enugu State," he said.
The council chairman also inspected complementary infrastructure being executed by the local government to support the facilities, including perimeter fencing, access roads, and water supply projects. He commended the contractors for the quality of work and urged them to sustain the momentum to ensure timely completion.
Edeh reiterated the commitment of the Nkanu East Local Government Council to providing the necessary support that would guarantee a conducive learning environment for pupils and improved healthcare services for residents, stressing that the projects align with Governor Mbah's vision of delivering world-class public infrastructure across the state.
