AGUIYI LIVES ON

"The true measure of a life is not how long it is lived, but how many lives it transforms. A legacy of service never dies, it lives on in every life it touches."

Every great legacy begins with a life dedicated to serving others. While monuments may fade and memories may dim with time, the impact of genuine compassion, selfless leadership, and unwavering commitment to humanity continues to inspire generations.

The Chijioke Ugwueze Memorial Foundation (CUMEF) stands as a living testament to the enduring vision and humanitarian ideals of Hon. Chief Leonard Chijioke Ugwueze (Aguiyi)—a remarkable leader whose life was devoted to uplifting the vulnerable, empowering the disadvantaged, and building stronger communities.

As CUMEF celebrates five remarkable years of service, impact, and enduring legacy, we honour not only the memory of an extraordinary man, but also the countless lives transformed through his vision. This milestone is a celebration of hope restored, dreams realized, opportunities created, and communities strengthened through compassion, purposeful leadership, and unwavering commitment to human development.

Indeed, Aguiyi lives on, not merely in memory, but in every life changed, every dream revived, and every community empowered through the Foundation that proudly bears his name.

ABOUT THE FOUNDATION

The Chijioke Ugwueze Memorial Foundation (CUMEF) was established on 31st July, 2021, to preserve and promote the enduring legacy of Hon. Chief Leonard Chijioke Ugwueze, a visionary leader, compassionate public servant, philanthropist, and tireless advocate for community development.

Until his passing on 12th June, 2020, Hon. Ugwueze devoted his life to serving humanity, particularly the poor, widows, vulnerable children, youths, and marginalized members of society. His unwavering commitment to justice, quality education, healthcare, economic empowerment, and peaceful coexistence distinguished him as a true servant-leader.

He firmly believed that leadership should improve lives by expanding access to education, empowering young people and women to become self-reliant, supporting vulnerable families, and promoting peace, unity, and social harmony.

To ensure that these noble ideals continue to flourish beyond his lifetime, the Chijioke Ugwueze Memorial Foundation was established as a sustainable platform for humanitarian service and community transformation.

Guided by the core values of compassion, inclusion, integrity, transparency, and accountability, CUMEF continues to implement programmes that restore hope, promote dignity, and improve the quality of life of vulnerable people.

The Foundation designs and implements programmes based on the genuine needs of the communities it serves. Through strategic interventions, it has positively impacted the educational, economic, physical, social, and psychological well-being of its beneficiaries.

Recognising the socio-economic challenges confronting Isi-Uzo Local Government Area—including poverty, unemployment, inequality, poor infrastructure, inadequate educational opportunities, and limited healthcare access—the Foundation continues to provide practical, sustainable, and people-centred solutions.

CUMEF is governed by a dedicated Board of Trustees, which provides strategic leadership, policy direction, and institutional oversight. Under the visionary leadership of Dr. Mrs. Catherine Amaka Ugwueze, Founder and President of the Foundation, supported by members of the Board and committed volunteers, the Foundation has continued to expand both its reach and its impact.

The Foundation has also established a transparent, merit-based process for selecting scholarship beneficiaries and educational support recipients. This process remains free from political interference, favouritism, or the local "man-know-man" syndrome, ensuring fairness, credibility, and equal opportunity for every deserving beneficiary.

Within just five years, CUMEF has become a trusted platform for social transformation across the eleven electoral wards of Isi-Uzo Local Government Area. Its achievements demonstrate its capacity to contribute meaningfully to educational advancement, poverty reduction, youth empowerment, women's economic development, disability inclusion, and sustainable community development—not only in Isi-Uzo but throughout Enugu State and the South-East region of Nigeria.
