Today marks a historic milestone, not only for Enugu State but also for the South East Development Commission (SEDC), as we witnessed the signing of the first major Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the implementation of a flagship physical development project of the Commission.

As the Liaison Officer of the South East Development Commission in Enugu State, I am deeply honoured and happy that this landmark achievement is taking place today immense pride that Enugu State has become the first beneficiary of the Commission’s flagship agricultural development initiative, reaffirming its position as a leader in innovation, development, and regional progress.

This achievement is a testament to the visionary leadership of His Excellency, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, whose proactive and forward-thinking approach to governance continues to distinguish Enugu State. Governor Mbah is a leader who sees opportunities where others see challenges, and whose commitment to economic transformation has positioned the state as the preferred destination for strategic investments.

On behalf of my office, I express my profound gratitude to His Excellency for his unwavering support and confidence in this partnership. His commitment to agriculture, food security, youth empowerment, and industrial development has made this historic collaboration possible.

I also wish to sincerely appreciate the Secretary to the State Government, who represented His Excellency during the signing ceremony, for his exceptional leadership and coordination throughout the process.

My heartfelt appreciation goes to the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, whose painstaking legal review ensured that every provision of the agreement adequately protects the interests of Enugu State and its people.

I equally commend the Commissioner for Agriculture and Agro-Industrialisation, the Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, the Commissioner for Water Resources, and the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Mobilisation for their invaluable contributions and unwavering support towards the successful conclusion of this landmark agreement.

Special appreciation goes to the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the South East Development Commission, Mr. Mark Okoye, for his visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to regional development. I also commend the Executive Director, Natural Resources, Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Cliff Ogbede; the Executive Director of Projects, Hon. Toby Okechukwu; the Head of Legal Services; and the entire management team of the Commission.

This achievement is the product of several months of consultations, negotiations, technical reviews, and collaborative engagements between the South East Development Commission and the Enugu State Government. Every stage of the process was driven by one objective, to secure the very best outcome for the people of Enugu State and the South East region.

Enugu occupies a strategic position in the South East, and I am delighted that this transformational initiative is taking off from our state. This is only the beginning of greater things to come.

I assure the people of Enugu State that this agricultural initiative is far more than a conventional farming programme. It is a comprehensive agro-industrial development project designed to generate massive employment opportunities for our youths, empower farmers, stimulate private sector investment, strengthen food security, and create sustainable wealth across the state.

The project will feature modern, world-class infrastructure capable of supporting commercial agriculture, agro-processing, mechanised farming, and value-chain development. It is designed to accommodate investors, cooperatives, smallholder farmers, agribusiness entrepreneurs, and every stakeholder interested in participating in the agricultural transformation of our state.

Finally, I extend my sincere appreciation to the dedicated members of my office, especially my staff and support team, whose patience, commitment, and hard work contributed immensely to making this historic achievement a reality.

Together, we have laid the foundation for a new era of agricultural development, economic prosperity, and sustainable growth in Enugu State.
