The Umuada Awgu Progressive Association, popularly known as Umuada Awgu Global, has announced plans to stage a Grand Endorsement Rally in honour of distinguished political leaders whose leadership and commitment to public service have positively impacted the people of Awgu Local Government Area and Enugu State.
The event, themed "Rewarding Performance, Inspiring Greater Service," is scheduled to hold on Saturday, July 4, 2026, by 11:00 a.m. at the Awgu Local Government Secretariat, Awgu, Enugu State.
Umuada Awgu Global, a formidable socio-cultural and advocacy organisation comprising daughters of Awgu Local Government both at home and in the diaspora, has over the years distinguished itself as a strong voice for community development, women empowerment, family values, social justice, and the protection of the dignity and rights of women and children. The association has consistently championed initiatives aimed at promoting peace, unity, and sustainable development across the communities of Awgu.
The group has also earned commendation for its interventions in humanitarian causes, community disputes, and matters affecting the welfare and protection of women, positioning itself as one of the most influential women-led organisations in Enugu State.
According to the association, the endorsement rally is intended to provide a platform for the daughters of Awgu to collectively reaffirm their confidence and support for leaders whose stewardship has inspired progress, development, and good governance across Enugu State.
At the historic gathering, the association will formally endorse Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah in recognition of his administration's transformative initiatives in infrastructure development, education, healthcare, security, the digital economy, agriculture, and economic reforms that have continued to reposition Enugu State as one of Nigeria's fastest-growing sub-national economies.
Other leaders billed to receive endorsements include Senator Osita Ngwu, representing Enugu West Senatorial District; Hon. Anayo Onwuegbu, member representing Oji River, Awgu and Aninri Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives; Hon. Uchenna Okolo, Executive Chairman of Awgu Local Government Area; Hon. Tony Nwankwo, member representing Awgu South Constituency in the Enugu State House of Assembly; and Hon. Charles Ezenta, member representing Awgu North Constituency in the State Assembly.
In an invitation issued by the association, Umuada Awgu Global stated that the event is being organised in appreciation of leaders who have demonstrated unwavering commitment to the welfare of the people and have remained responsive to the developmental aspirations of Awgu and Enugu State.
The group noted that the endorsement rally would also serve as an opportunity to celebrate impactful leadership and encourage public office holders to sustain the momentum of good governance, accountability, and service delivery.
The association further emphasised that the gathering would highlight the crucial role of women in promoting participatory governance, fostering unity among communities, and serving as critical stakeholders in the political and developmental advancement of society.
According to the organisers, the rally is expected to attract a large turnout of women from the eleven autonomous communities in Awgu Local Government Area, traditional rulers, political leaders, youth groups, community stakeholders, and sons and daughters of Awgu from across Nigeria and the diaspora.
The event is also expected to feature goodwill messages, cultural displays, solidarity processions, and presentations celebrating the achievements of the endorsed leaders and the contributions of women to the development of Awgu and Enugu State.
Umuada Awgu Global has therefore called on stakeholders, community leaders, political associates, and residents of Awgu and beyond to attend the event, noting that their presence would add colour, prestige, and significance to what it described as a historic gathering of daughters united in appreciation of purposeful leadership.
