…Group's President Presents Wheelchairs To Two Physically Challenged Persons
…Council Chairman Awards Scholarship
The erstwhile quiet communities of Owo, Ubahu, Amankanu, and Amaechi- Idodo came alive in a spectacular display of unity, celebration, and political solidarity as the crème de la crème of Enugu State politics converged at the Amankanu Development Centre Playground, Amankanu, by Owo Junction. The occasion was the grand finale of the tour of the most organic and vibrant support group of Governor Peter Mbah’s administration, the Tomorrow Is Here Movement (THM), led by its President, Chief Tony Okonkwo, a distinguished son of Nkanu East LGA.
The event assumed a carnival-like atmosphere, drawing top government functionaries, party stalwarts, stakeholders, and a mammoth crowd from across the state.
From the Enugu–Abakaliki highway through the newly constructed 44.5km dual carriageway initiated by Governor Peter Mbah, now opening a strategic gateway to the North and unlocking economic opportunities across communities down to Ikem, vehicular movement was nearly impossible due to the massive turnout.
Traditional rulers, political leaders, clergy, reverend sisters, market women, youth groups, cultural troupes, and grassroots supporters all turned out in full force, leaving no segment of society unrepresented.
The programme commenced at about 1:20 pm with an opening prayer and the presentation of kola nut, setting the tone for a series of impactful speeches and goodwill messages.
Opening the floor was the Nkanu East LGA Coordinator of THM, Hon. Martin Agbo, who expressed profound gratitude to the people for their overwhelming turnout. He commended members of the movement for their tireless grassroots mobilization and effective propagation of Governor Mbah’s landmark achievements across all 17 local government areas. He confidently affirmed that the Governor’s outstanding performance has made his re-election inevitable.
In an emotionally resonant address, the Chairman of Nkanu East LGA, Hon. Sydney Okechukwu Edeh, recalled how Governor Mbah, upon assuming office in 2023, pledged to transform Enugu State and has since fulfilled that promise with remarkable diligence. He praised the group for its unwavering support and lauded the people of the state for their loyalty, urging continued commitment towards securing a second term for the Governor.
Also speaking, the Zonal Coordinator of THM in Enugu East Senatorial Zone, Alhaji Sani Friday, reiterated the group’s resolve to sustain its mobilization efforts beyond 2027, emphasizing that Governor Mbah’s developmental strides transcend electoral cycles.
In a show of bipartisan endorsement, the Zonal Chairman of APC in Enugu East Senatorial Zone, Hon. Nnamdi Nwafor, declared Governor Mbah’s second term “non-negotiable,” asserting that no administration from the days of old Anambra State to present-day Enugu has matched his performance.
Corroborating this stance, the Enugu State Chairman of APC, Dr. Martin Chukwunweike, stated unequivocally that Governor Mbah’s re-election is well deserved, citing both precedent and performance. He warned against political detractors masquerading as opposition and urged vigilance among the people.
Delivering his remarks partly in the local dialect, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Enugu State, Barr. Osinachi Nnajieze, described Governor Mbah as a leader of exceptional capacity whose re-election is assured through the collective will of the people.
A revered traditional ruler, His Royal Highness Igwe Abel Nwobodo, offered prayers for the Governor’s success, emphasizing that equity and precedent support his return for a second term.
Other dignitaries who delivered goodwill messages, including Commissioner for Lands, Barr. Chimaobi Okoli; Member representing Nkanu East State Constituency, Hon. Okey Mbah; SPA on Legislative Matters, Hon. Paul Nnajioffor; Special Assistant on Market Matters, Hon. Chinedu Mbah; Alhaji Saraki Sambo, Igwe H. Edeani, Chairman Nkanu East Traditional Rulers Council, HRM, Igwe Greg Ugwu, and Mr. Ekene Nnamani, Chairman, Enugu State Internal Revenue Service were unanimous in their endorsement of the Governor’s second term, citing his exceptional performance.
During the interactive question-and-answer session, the Deputy Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly and Deputy President of THM, Hon. Ezenta Ezeani, reaffirmed the group’s unwavering commitment to promoting the administration’s people-oriented projects across the state.
In his address during the inauguration of the local government and ward coordinators, the President of THM, Chief Tony Okonkwo, expressed deep appreciation for the massive turnout. He announced the commencement of ward-level tours as the next phase of engagement and charged coordinators to intensify grassroots mobilization by taking the message of the Governor’s achievements directly to the people.
Highlights of the event included the formal inauguration of coordinators, presentation of wheelchairs to two physically challenged individuals earlier identified during the group’s outreach in Igbo Eze South LGA, and the award of a scholarship by the Nkanu East LGA Chairman to a young girl who excelled during the interactive session.
The colourful outing was further enriched by masquerade displays and vibrant cultural performances.
