Awkunanaw clan, a profoundly critical, homogenous entity within the larger Nkanu homeland, has scheduled a Mega Rally, unprecedented in scope, in Honour of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for April 11, 2026!
The gathering is programmed to demonstrate, in no unmistakable terms, how the generality of Awkunanaw people value and appreciate Governor Mbah, and the quality and direction of his leadership since the inception of his administration in 2023!
The event will take place at the iconic Awkunanaw ancestral ground, Akpasha, a ground that predates the people’s civilization!
Awkunanaw Civic Center Akpasha, Akegbe Ugwu, is the venue.
Time is 10am
Sons and daughters of the clan, including stakeholders, residents and lovers of our people in Enugu and beyond, are expected to grace this momentous occasion!
This is not just another gathering or aimless jamboree, it is special event to celebrate the governor’s remarkable achievements in office so far, and reaffirm the overwhelming grassroot support his administration enjoys in Awkunanaw, particularly in the run-in to the 2027 general elections.
The rally is also not your usual ceremonial gathering but a public decisive expression of gratitude by a people united in purpose and mission!
Awkunanaw folks, like the majority of their folks in Nkanuland, are not ungrateful or greedy; they honorable people who appreciate recognition, and reward same with loyalty and lifetime solidarity; they are not fair whether allies!
The Awkunanaw Clan love for Governor Peter Mbah is deep seated and unconditional; all component villages of Akegbe Ugwu, Obuoffia, Amechi, Amodu, Umueze, Akwuke, Ugwuaji, and Obeagu, say so with one voice: Mbah is our own!
In their public statement, the clan declared: “Your Excellency, your leadership in Enugu State has become a point of reference for other sub-nationals in the country, setting a new benchmark. You have redesigned and redefined good governance, and as a clan, we are proud of you.”This sentiment stems from tangible transformations witnessed under Mbah’s administration since 2023. Governor Mbah has prioritized infrastructure renewal, education, healthcare, security, and economic growth. His administration has launched the Smart Green Schools initiative, targeting technology-driven schools across all 260 wards in the state. Plans also include the construction and upgrading of primary and secondary healthcare centres to improve access to quality medical services. These projects directly impact rural and semi-urban communities like those in Awkunanaw, where improved education and health infrastructure translate to better opportunities for the next generation.
Enugu State has recorded unprecedented growth in Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) through digital reforms, plugging of leakages, and optimization of state assets. The state budget has expanded dramatically, with a strong emphasis on capital expenditure (often 80% or more), funding roads, urban renewal, water supply, and tourism projects. Governor Mbah’s bold vision to grow the state’s economy from approximately $4.4 billion to $30 billion within eight years reflects a shift from consumption to productivity and private-sector-led development. These reforms create jobs, attract investments, and foster an enabling environment that benefits clans and communities across Enugu.
Major projects, including road networks, transport reforms, a proposed smart city initiative, and tourism enhancements (such as upgrades at Akwuke Sand Beach), are modernizing Enugu. For a clan located near the state capital with communities in both urban-adjacent and rural settings, these developments improve connectivity, livability, and economic potential
Mbah’s leadership style which has been described as technocratic, results-driven, and transparent has earned national acclaim. President Bola Tinubu and other observers have lauded the “transformative leadership” that prioritizes measurable outcomes over rhetoric. In a political landscape often criticized for underperformance, such visible progress deserves public recognition and encouragement. The rally serves as a platform for the Awkunanaw people to collectively acknowledge these gains and express solidarity.
As Enugu approaches the 2027 elections, the rally is both symbolic and strategic. It allows the clan to demonstrate appreciation for “people-oriented governance” while reinforcing unity and support for continued development. Eminent stakeholders of the clan , including the Executive Chairman of Enugu South LGA, Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Caleb Onyema Ani, Fmr Fed. House of Representative member, Rt. Hon. USA Igwesi have intensified mobilization efforts, urging town unions, youth groups, and women’s organizations to participate en masse.
