The traditional ruler of Ogugu Ntu-egbenese Ancient Kingdom in Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State, His Royal Highness, Igwe Aloysius Chidozie Ogbonna Jnr, has extolled Jim Ifeanyichukwu Nwobodo on his reception of Vanguard's lifetime achievement award.
Igwe Ogbonna made this known on Saturday during a chat with newsmen on the award given to the octogenarian during the Vanguard Personality of the Year Award held in Lagos State.
He stated that Sen Nwobodo is one of the brightest sons of Ntu-egbenese clan, whose commitment to the growth of the nation, Enugu State, and Ntu-egbenese clan is always seen and felt.
He posited that the award is applaudable, as it is a recognition of his inputs in the development of Enugu, Anambra, and present-day Ebonyi, where he left legacies through visible projects, policies, and programmes that have continued to stand the test of time.
According to him,
“I am glad to be here today to celebrate an icon of leadership, a leader, father, and mentor to many. This award is recognition of his excellent leadership for our dear state, South East, and Nigeria. Sen Nwobodo, during his tenure as Governor of old Anambra State, recorded several practical achievements between 1979 and 1983 that focused on development across the state. It was he who established the Anambra State University of Science and Technology, as well as colleges of education in Nsugbe and Eha-Amufu, to expand access to higher education. In infrastructure and sports, he built the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium and improved roads and public facilities across present-day Enugu, Anambra, and Ebonyi. To boost tourism and business, he constructed the Nike Lake Hotel and Ikenga Hotels in Enugu, Onitsha, and Awka. He also strengthened media development through the establishment of Anambra State Television. His administration promoted balanced development across different areas, leaving projects that are still in use today.”
He also stated that Sen Nwobodo remains a strong example of selfless service and leadership. He urged younger leaders to learn from his style of governance, which focused on practical results and people-oriented policies.
Igwe Ogbonna further stated that such recognition should inspire unity, hard work, and a renewed commitment to community development across the South East and Nigeria at large.
He, however, commended Vanguard Newspaper for its insight in using its platform to recognise excellence and, thus, prayed for God's grace and guidance upon Sen Jim Ifeanyichukwu Nwobodo and his family.
