Dr. Vincent Egechukwu Obetta is the ninth and last child of late Pa David Ogbu and Christiana Oyibo Obetta (nee Ugwuoke) of Ovoko-Enu Clan, Alor-Agu, Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area, Enugu State. He left his parents at the tender age of eight years to live with his eldest brother, who, at that time was residing in Makurdi, Benue State. The then young Ege, in the midst of the vicissitudes of life that faced him as he was growing up, clearly fathomed his life and set his goals ambitiously. To that end, he strove to acquire and excel in education in the consciousness that education will be central to the realization of his lofty goals in life. He had therefore set out to pursue his academic goals with every vigor, doggedness and gusto he could muster which has gone a long way to shape and define his life.
He attended a popular missionary school, St. Catherine Primary School, Makurdi, Benue State, where he obtained his First School Leaving Certificate. Thereafter, he enrolled in the Government Secondary School, Takum, in the old Gongola State (now Taraba State). In 1992, Dr. Obetta gained admission to study Political Science at the University of Calabar, Cross River State. Due to his resolve to become a lawyer, he discontinued his Political Science programme after his first year of study, when he gained admission to study Law at the same University of Calabar.
At Unical, he was elected the President of Federated Association of Nsukka Students, offering leadership that championed and protected the yearnings and aspirations of the generality of Nsukka students. He obtained his LLB (Hons.) in 2001. In 2003, he attended the Nigeria Law School and was called to the Nigerian Bar as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria. In his quest for career and intellectual development, Ege Nwa Obetta gained admission into the University of East London, London, United Kingdom, for a Master of Laws (LLM) in International Law and Criminal Justice, where he graduated with Distinction in 2012. Upon the completion of his Master of Laws (LLM) programme, he secured admission to the famous University of London for his Doctorate (PhD) in International Law and Development.
That dream could not be pursued following his preference to come back to his fatherland to contribute his quota to its advancement. Ege Nwa Obetta eventually crowned his academic journey by enrolling in, prosecuting and successfully earning a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Law from Enugu State University of Science and Technology.
In his crave to impact knowledge, he also joined Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) in the Department of International Law and Jurisprudence, Faculty of Law, where he teaches International Law, Conflict of Laws and International Human Rights Law. Ege Nwa Obetta is the Co-author of Medical Jurisprudence for Nursing Students and Nursing Professionals. He has many scholarly articles in many reputable local and international journals.
Ege Nwa Obetta joined active private legal practice in 2004 at Onyi Akpamgbo & Co. where he was the Head of Research. In 2008, he left Onyi Akpamgbo & Co. to pioneer the establishment of Igwurube Chambers where he later became the Manager of the firm. Dr. Obetta, as a courageous and fearless human rights activist, is not afraid or shy to undertake both controversial and public interest litigations as he has done in the past.
Ege Nwa Obetta is a cerebral scholar, an astute manager of men, a consummate businessman, a passionate farmer, a resourceful administrator, a resilient achiever and a philanthropist par excellence. It would not be sounding immodest to assert that Ege Nwa Obetta is an accomplished and fulfilled man having distinguished himself and excelled in his chosen lines of career and passion. Starting from a very humble background, Ege Nwa Obetta has been able to blaze the trail, establish himself and etched his career and passion as a scholar, a professional, an administrator, a manager and a politician. Today, Dr. Obetta is a synonymous name with successful engagements in different spheres of life.
Ege Nwa Obetta and his numerous visions have been more than success stories. Everything he has touched his hands on had always become gold. But these are not the pride of this man. He has sophisticated himself and secured his future but that is not what matters to him the most. His principal preoccupation has been how to impact on the society and shape the course of humanity. He has stood out for that which puts smiles on the faces of people and alleviates the common plight of humanity.
Given his humble background, he quite knows what it means not to have a helping hand; how it pinches to be left uncared for and how difficult it could be for a talent to be realized without support. Thus, he has been a veritable source of succor, support and inspiration to many young people whom he has propelled to fulfill their aspirations in life.
Obetta is the Chief Executive Officer of Rural-Child Education International, a Non-Governmental Organization set up to assist rural children in attaining quality education as their peers in the urban cities. Currently, Rural Child International has over One Hundred and Twenty-Five (125) children who benefit from the benevolence of Dr. Obetta and his team in the provision of educational support and logistics. As part of his Personal Social Responsibility (PSR), Obetta founded the Street Law Africa Inc., a Non-Governmental Human Rights Organization, whose main objective is to liberalize the acquisition of the knowledge of the law by taking the learning of the law to the streets and unconventional places for all and sundry to be equipped with the knowledge, workings and nuances of the law.
Ege Nwa Obetta has been executing community projects for his people and providing life-long supports for young people who have the burning zeal to excel in their endeavours but have no means to realize their potentials. He has empowered several youths in a bid to keep them engaged in meaningful and worthwhile endeavours. He has extended his benevolence to the churches in keeping with his Christian faith and obligation. All these and many more have been his commitments and engagements to find solutions to youth unemployment, arresting the tide of criminality and desperation, improving the lots of humanity and impacting the society.
These giant strides and lofty ideals have not however been without testimonies from people. He is loved and respected and is a source of pride; he has received honours, titles, awards and recognitions. He is the Patron of several organizations which have found in him a benefactor, a pillar of supports and a beacon of hope.
Ege Nwa Obetta is the Eze Chi Turugo of Ibagwa-Aka Kingdom and the Okakwu Onyimonyi n'Ugwuogene, Obaka-Egu Chiefdom.
In politics, he has paid his dues and earned some positions of authority. He was appointed the Supervisor for Works and later, the Supervisor for Finance at Udeze Development Centre in the Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area, Enugu State. Enugu State Government under the helsmanship of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Dr. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, has not equally lost sight of his proven integrity and pedigree. Dr. Obetta was, in July 2017, appointed the Senior Special Assistant to the Executive Governor of Enugu State. Five months later, and by divine providence, he was appointed the Project Coordinator of the Enugu State Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP), a World Bank-Assisted erosion intervention project where he held sway as the Project Manager for seven years. He brought into the job his track record of diligence, due process and sagacity. He was then PDP's Enugu North Senatorial Campaign Director in 2023, and transversed six local government areas and the entire 112 political wards.
Ege Nwa Obetta feels fulfilled in many ways but is most fulfilled about his darling and beautiful wife of many years, His Worship, Chief Magistrate Kelechi Lynda Obetta, and four adorable children whom God has blessed them with. In every sense, he is a true family man and a Christian who places God as the centerpiece of his life and to whom he attributes all success stories, giant strides, lofty ideals and wonderful testimonies of his life and aspirations.
And what drives Ege Nwa Obetta? It is a keen interest in problems and how to solve them; a spirit that is indefatigable, eyes that project ease, warmth and audacity, and a goal to transform and innovate. Ege Nwa Obetta has authored his own story, the story of a resourceful man with eyes set on things so great and ideals so lofty.
Today, Ege Nwa Obetta is a collosus. He keeps looking unto God and is always available as an instrument in God's hands. As God continually blesses him, he continues to be a blessing to humanity and the society. It has been 5 decades of God’s humongous blessings. He is a man of many parts with sterling records of exploits and impacts. His life has indeed been a living memorial to show forth that the Lord God Almighty is faithful in His promises to His people.
With the vacuum occasioned by the demise of the Distinguished Senator Okey Ezea, Ege Nwa Obetta is driven by a passion for the advancement of the interests of the Enugu North people to contest for the seat.
There is no doubt that the pedigree of Ege Nwa Obetta perfectly fits into the ideal candidate that will represent the Senatorial Zone and speak for the Nsukka people.
