Boko Haram Issues 72-Hour Ultimatum, Threatens Execution of 416 Captives in Borno

A faction of , officially known as Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad, has issued a 72-hour ultimatum to the Nigerian government, threatening to execute 416 captives, mostly women and children, if its demands are not met.

In a video message released on April 19, 2026, a masked spokesperson for the group declared that the countdown had begun, warning that failure to comply would result in the killing of all those held in captivity in .

The spokesperson, who spoke in Hausa, reaffirmed the group’s identity and allegiance, stating that the message was directed at multiple stakeholders, including the Nigerian government and the Borno South Youth Alliance (BOSYA). He emphasized that both parties had already exchanged demands and warned against any attempt to alter the agreed terms.

According to him, “We are giving you seventy-two hours. If you do not fulfill what we have told you, we will begin to execute the women and small children. This is not a bluff.”

The insurgent group also cautioned against any military rescue operation, warning that such action could worsen the situation and lead to immediate consequences for the captives.

As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official response from the Federal Government.

Reacting to the development, BOSYA President, , made an emotional appeal to key government officials, including , , , and , urging urgent intervention to secure the release of the victims.

Kaigama lamented the lack of response from authorities despite efforts to reach them, noting that he had also contacted , who directed him to the National Security Adviser.

Describing himself as a mediator, Kaigama said he had taken personal risks to engage with those involved in a bid to save the captives. He further appealed to influential Nigerians, including business leaders, to assist in facilitating a peaceful resolution.

He stressed the urgency of the situation, calling on all relevant stakeholders to act swiftly to prevent the loss of innocent lives.
