The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has disclosed that it is targeting two-thirds of the population of Enugu State in its ongoing membership mobilisation, revalidation, and registration exercise.

The party made this known on Thursday while flagging off the exercise in Enugu.

According to the party, the registration drive is expected to serve as a game changer that will alter the political narrative not only in Enugu State but across Nigeria.

The Chairman of the Enugu State Membership Mobilisation, Revalidation and Registration Committee, Barrister Sunday Okereke, explained that the party has commenced the process with mobilisation of members and will do everything possible to ensure that the people become conscious and actively involved in party politics.

He disclosed that new membership cards with unique codes have been introduced, which will supersede and invalidate previous membership cards.

According to him:

“So, we will revalidate those that are already registered by issuing them new cards, then we register new members and bring them to the wards.”

Okereke further stated that the party would utilise the National Identification Number (NIN) for the registration process.

“We will use NIN (National Identification Number) for the registration and we advise members to be strict with the exercise. Let’s not sell our rights to vote which is sacrosanct,” he advised.

Also speaking, one of the party’s stakeholders and former Leader of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Dr. Ikechukwu Ezeugwu, said the masses were ready to change what he described as the wrong ways things are being done in Nigeria.

According to him:

“The people are tired and we want to change the narrative, if not just for us but for the generations yet unborn, because we can’t continue like this.”

He urged members of the public to register in their respective wards, adding that those living in the municipality could complete the online registration process in less than two minutes, describing the system as seamless.

Ezeugwu also disclosed that membership cards have already been distributed across the 260 wards in Enugu State, following the inauguration of the membership and registration committee.

“Our hope and target is to get two-thirds membership of the people in Enugu State as members of the ADC,” he said.

Also speaking, Senator Gil Nnaji, who represented Enugu East Senatorial District, stated that party leaders were mobilising members and supporters to register in large numbers.

He noted that many people had already started registering through booklets, which would later be transferred into the new registers.
