A chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress APC in Enugu State ,Hon. John Tochukwu Ogbodo, has said that with what happened during the National Convention of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), it is a sign that Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah is in charge.
Speaking with newsmen in Enugu on Tuesday on the outcome of the congresses organized by the ruling party across all its leadership structures in the country, especially in Enugu State, he stated that Enugu’s congress remains one of the finest, as it was executed devoid of rancour, with everyone carried along.
He stated that the peaceful and well-coordinated process witnessed in Enugu clearly shows that the state leadership understands the importance of unity and order in party affairs. According to him, the role played by Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah in ensuring that stakeholders remained calm and focused contributed greatly to the success recorded during the exercise.
Hon. Ogbodo noted that the governor has continued to show strong leadership, not only in governance but also in managing party matters in a way that promotes peace and progress. He added that such leadership style is needed at this time when the party is preparing for future elections.
He also congratulated Dr. Ben Nwoye on his emergence as the Deputy National Chairman South of the party, describing it as well deserved.
He also opined that Dr. Nwoye has shown capacity over the years and expressed confidence that he will bring his experience to bear in strengthening the party’s structure across the southern part of the country.
Hon ogbodo also praised the election of Hon Oby Ajih,Mrs Esther Edeh, Hon Basil Ojengwa as zonal and state women leaders as well as the state youth leader of the party ,an emergence he said ,is a right call that will champion the party to a smooth electoral victory.
While calling on party members to remain united, Ogbodo urged leaders at all levels to intensify efforts at the grassroots. He stressed that the strength of any political party lies in its connection with the people at the ward and local government levels.
He further appealed to the leadership of the party to always look within the grassroots when selecting candidates for elections.
According to him, those who have stayed with the people, understand their challenges, and have built trust over time are in the best position to win elections for the party, as we are targeting over 97% support from the electorate.
He maintained that giving tickets to such individuals will not only improve the party’s chances at the polls but will also deepen the relationship between the party and the electorate.
Hon. Ogbodo, however, urged APC leaders and members in Enugu State to put aside personal interests and work together for the overall success of the party, adding that with unity, discipline, and hard work, the party will continue to grow stronger in Enugu State and across the country.
