The Wife of the Executive Chairman of Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area, Barr. Empress Ugo-Ferdinand, on January 1, 2025, joined the Wife of the Governor of Enugu State, Her Excellency Mrs Nkechinyere Mbah, at the Enugu State University Teaching Hospital, Parklane, to welcome the first newborn of the New Year in an initiative organised in partnership with Custos Care Foundation, marking the dawn of 2025 with a powerful message of hope, compassion and renewed commitment to the sanctity of life.


She shared her reflections following the visit, highlighting the significance of the moment and the compassion demonstrated by the Enugu State First Lady, as captured in her statement below:

"Today, to mark the dawn of a new year, I was pleased join Her Excellency, the First Lady of Enugu State, Mrs Nkechinyere Mbah, at Enugu State University Teaching Hospital, Parklane, to welcome the first newborn baby of 2026, organised in partnership with her foundation, Custos Care Foundation.

 While welcoming the first baby of the year, Her Excellency shared in the joy of new life and extended her presence to all the newborns in the maternity ward. She also reached out with compassion to mothers who unfortunately, lost their babies after childbirth, offering words of comfort, prayer and reassurance. The moment carried a message of hope and renewed faith at the very start of the year.

 Throughout the time spent at the hospital, the First Lady offered encouragement, goodwill and prayers to families, creating moments emotional support for mothers and caregivers. The gesture reflected a deep sense of humanity and shared responsibility in nurturing life and standing with those in moments of joy and sorrow.

 I commend Her Excellency, Mrs Nkechinyere Mbah, and Custos Care Foundation for this meaningful initiative. This New Year moment goes beyond ceremony as it honours the sanctity of life, strengthens community bonds and affirms a lasting commitment to hope, care and a brighter future for Enugu State".
