Director-General of the South East Governors’ Forum, Senator Uche Ekwunife, has declared that the 2027 presidential election will be a walkover for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, insisting that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is well-positioned to secure victory.

Ekwunife made the assertion shortly after an APC stakeholders’ meeting in Awka, Anambra State, held in connection with the party’s ongoing e-registration exercise. According to her, the ruling party is more energized and better prepared to return President Tinubu for a second term.

She acknowledged the popularity of the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, but argued that public affection alone does not guarantee electoral victory.

“By 2027, the election will be a walkover. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will win, and Nigerians will be better for it,” she said. “I will not dismiss the influence of Mr. Peter Obi; he is loved. Tinubu is equally loved. But democracy is about party support, and I am a member of the APC. I will work for APC, and APC will win.”

Reacting to allegations that the national leadership of the APC provided logistics for the party during the Anambra governorship election, Ekwunife denied receiving any form of financial support.

“Nobody gave me one naira for that election,” she stated, adding that elections in Anambra are capital-intensive and often characterised by vote buying. She claimed that votes were allegedly purchased for between ₦25,000 and ₦50,000 during the election.

Ekwunife maintained that the APC did not deploy funds to polling units during the governorship election, stressing that she was in a strong position to speak, having participated in multiple electoral contests in the state, including House of Representatives and Senatorial elections, which she won.

She further noted that while the APC leadership and members worked diligently at all levels, the election outcome did not favour the party. She, however, pledged continued support for Governor Chukwuma Soludo to ensure the progress of Anambra State.

“The party executives were enthusiastic and committed. When people criticize them, I laugh because they do not know what they went through,” she said. “The governor has won, and we will support him to keep Anambra on the right track.”
