The Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, has charged civil and public servants in the state to double down on their duties, urging them to recommit themselves to professionalism, discipline, and the effective promotion of government policies as the state pursues its ambitious development agenda.

Governor Mbah gave the charge on Monday while addressing workers during the 2026 New Year Workers’ Mass held at the Government House Chaplaincy, Enugu. He stressed that although significant progress has been recorded by his administration, the task of rebuilding and repositioning Enugu State is far from complete.

According to the governor, the success of his administration’s bold vision for economic growth, infrastructural renewal, and improved service delivery largely depends on the dedication and efficiency of workers across the Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). He urged them to approach their responsibilities with renewed vigor, noting that the state has set ambitious revenue and performance targets that require collective commitment and accountability.

Dr. Mbah emphasized that public service must be driven by a deep sense of purpose, integrity, and patriotism, reminding workers that their daily conduct directly impacts governance outcomes and public trust. He reiterated his administration’s resolve to build a results-oriented civil service capable of driving sustainable development and meeting global standards.

Earlier in his homily titled “2026: A Year of Renewed Momentum,” the Government House Chaplain, Rev. Fr. Anthony Udeh, prayed for divine strength and wisdom for Governor Mbah and members of his cabinet as they continue to provide leadership for the state. He described the new year as a critical period for consolidating gains already made and sustaining the pace of development.

Rev. Fr. Udeh commended the Enugu State Government for the numerous completed and ongoing projects across the state, describing the administration as a beacon of hope and progress not only to Ndi Enugu but also to the wider world. He noted that impactful leadership, likened to the example of Jesus Christ as the Good Shepherd, is reflected in the ability to positively touch lives across all sectors, a quality he said Governor Mbah has consistently demonstrated.

The cleric further encouraged workers to see their service as a vocation, urging them to align their professional responsibilities with the broader goal of social transformation and human development.

The solemn mass attracted top federal and state government officials, senior civil servants, party chieftains, and members of the clergy. It was officiated by the Catholic Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Calistus Onaga, who was represented by the Vicar General, Rev. Fr. Geoffrey Aguigwo.

The event marked a reflective and spiritually uplifting beginning to the 2026 work year, reinforcing the administration’s call for renewed commitment, unity of purpose, and sustained momentum in the collective quest to reposition Enugu State for enduring progress.
