Enugu State Governor, His Excellency, Barr. Peter Mbah, represented by his Deputy, Barr. Ifeanyi Ossai, has congratulated Hon. Justice Donatus Uwaezuoke Okorowo on his elevation to the Court of Appeal, describing the achievement as a product of diligence, discipline and professional excellence.
This was made known at a Thanksgiving ceremony held in honour of Justice Okorowo, who was recently elevated from the Federal High Court to the Court of Appeal.
Speaking at the event, Ossai noted that attaining the position of a Justice of the Court of Appeal is no mean feat, given the rigorous demands, sacrifices and years of hardwork required in the judicial profession.
“Being a judge is no small achievement. For those of us who understand the rigours of the journey, we know it comes with immense hardwork, sacrifice and discipline. Justice Okorowo prepared himself for this elevation, and today we are proud of him,” Ossai said.
He recalled Justice Okorowo’s tenure as Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Enugu Branch, noting that despite the demands of that role, he remained committed to professional excellence, which ultimately earned him the elevation.
According to him, Justice Okorowo’s progression from the Federal High Court to the Court of Appeal is a clear indication that his diligence and integrity on the Bench were recognised at the highest levels.
The Deputy Governor urged legal practitioners from Enugu State to continue to support judges from the state, stressing that the responsibilities of judicial officers are often overwhelming.
“Judges carry enormous responsibilities. Many times, their schedules do not permit them to attend social functions or meetings. We must show understanding and support them so they can effectively discharge their duties,” he said.
Reaffirming the support of the Enugu State Government, the Deputy Governor encouraged Justice Okorowo to continue upholding the ethics of the legal profession and to remain steadfast in the discharge of his judicial duties.
“I urge Justice Okorowo to keep up the good work. You have the full support of the Enugu State Government, and we pray that you rise to the apex of your career,” he said.
The thanksgiving ceremony was attended by members of the judiciary, senior lawyers, government officials, family members and well-wishers who gathered to celebrate the milestone in Justice Okorowo’s distinguished legal career.
