All schoolchildren abducted from St. Mary’s Catholic School in the Papiri community of Niger State have been successfully released, bringing relief to families and the nation at large.

The final batch of 130 students regained their freedom on Tuesday, raising the total number of rescued children to 230, according to officials from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).

The release marks the end of days of anxiety and uncertainty following the abduction, which occurred when armed gunmen stormed the boarding school, sparking nationwide outrage and renewed concerns over the safety of educational institutions across Nigeria.

Authorities disclosed that the successful rescue was achieved through sustained security pressure and coordinated efforts among relevant security agencies.

Meanwhile, stakeholders and concerned Nigerians have intensified calls for stronger security measures around schools and more decisive action to prevent a recurrence of such attacks, especially in vulnerable communities.

The development is seen as a significant breakthrough in the ongoing fight against insecurity and school abductions in the country.
