A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has summoned the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, to appear before it on November 28.
Confirming the development, Kanu’s younger brother, Prince Emmanuel Kanu, revealed that the summons is tied to the harmonisation and settlement of court records for an appeal filed by the IPOB leader ahead of the court’s expected judgment slated for November 20.
Prince Emmanuel explained that although his brother is currently being held at the Sokoto Prison, his appearance in Abuja can only be achieved through a production warrant issued by the court. However, the court has reportedly declined to issue the warrant, creating uncertainty over how the separatist leader will be transported to the Federal Capital Territory for the scheduled proceedings.
The development has triggered concerns among supporters, legal observers, and human rights advocates, who fear that the refusal to grant the production warrant may complicate Kanu’s legal battle and hinder progress in the ongoing appeal.
