The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu State is charting a bold path to revival as the South East leadership of the party reaffirmed its commitment to rebuilding, reconciling, and repositioning its structures across the state.
This renewed drive followed a strategic engagement between members of the South East PDP Special Committee on Enugu Affairs and the Enugu State Working Committee, led by the Acting State Chairman, Barr. Steve Oruruo, held in Enugu over the weekend.
The high-powered meeting centered on reconciliation, revitalization, and grassroots mobilization across the 17 local government areas, marking what party faithful describe as a “fresh dawn” for the PDP in Enugu.
Speaking at the session, the Chairman of the Special Committee and South East Secretary of the PDP, Chief James Ugwu, described the engagement as a rallying point for unity and renewal, noting that the party remains unshaken despite recent political shifts.
“We are not discouraged. This is a time for rebuilding, reconciliation, and strategic engagement,” Ugwu declared. “Our mission is to reconnect with the grassroots, realign our structures, and ensure that the PDP once again reflects the true will and aspirations of the people of Enugu State.”
He emphasized that the PDP’s long-standing legacy and deep roots in Enugu’s political fabric would serve as the solid foundation for its resurgence, adding that the structure of the party “remains intact and formidable.”
Also speaking, the Secretary of the Special Committee and South East Zonal Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Engr. Sir Chigozie Igwe, hailed the meeting as a decisive step toward reclaiming the party’s political dominance in Enugu.
He acknowledged that while the exit of Governor Peter Mbah from the PDP was a setback, it has instead served as a wake-up call for renewal.
“The PDP has been the cornerstone of Enugu’s political stability since 1999,” Engr. Igwe noted. “Our values, structures, and people-centered ideology will continue to guide us back to victory. The PDP is not collapsing, it is reawakening.”
In his remarks, Acting State Chairman Barr. Steve Oruruo expressed gratitude to the South East leadership for their steadfastness, assuring that Enugu PDP remains focused, resilient, and prepared for a comeback.
“We will not be distracted by the political realignments around us,” Oruruo said confidently. “Our goal is to rebuild confidence, restore trust, and remind the people that the PDP remains their party, a platform founded on service, accountability, and development.”
He reaffirmed his commitment to working with stakeholders across the state to strengthen internal cohesion and rebuild the people’s faith in the party’s mission.
The Special Committee on Enugu Affairs has been mandated to drive reconciliation efforts, rebuild local structures, and reenergize the party base ahead of upcoming electoral contests.
According to Engr. Igwe, the committee is focused on fostering unity, bridging internal divides, and empowering the grassroots to ensure that the PDP remains a dominant and enduring political force in Enugu.
“We are building a movement that transcends individuals one that represents the collective aspirations of the people of Enugu,” he emphasized.
With renewed energy, strong leadership, and unwavering commitment, the South East PDP expressed optimism that the party will soon reclaim Enugu’s Lion Building and restore its legacy of responsive, people-driven governance.
