Enugu State Police Command has confirmed that multiple accidents in the State claimed 10 lives on Wednesday.
A viral video earlier in the day showed an accident at Four Corner Junction in Enugu State, which claimed an entire family and others.
In a statement issued by SP Daniel Ndukwe, Police Public Relations Officer, the command confirmed that two separate but tragic accidents occurred on September 3, 2025, along the Ozalla/4-Corner axis of the Enugu/Port-Harcourt Expressway. The crashes claimed ten lives and left ten others hospitalized.
The first incident, a multiple-vehicle crash, happened at about 9 a.m. when a Howo truck laden with cement collided with a Toyota Corolla attempting to overtake another truck. A Foton bus and a Daihatsu Hijet mini bus driving one-way were also involved. The truck and Corolla went up in flames, killing five occupants of the car, while one mini bus passenger also died.
At about 3 p.m., another crash occurred when a Sino truck driving one-way rammed into a tricycle, killing its four occupants, who later died in the hospital.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, mourned the tragic loss of lives and ordered a thorough investigation into the accidents. He described the crashes as avoidable, cautioning drivers to exercise utmost care, especially during the Ember Months, and reminded motorists to obey traffic rules and prioritize safety.
