The Amaka Nweke Foundation, a leading non-governmental organisation known for its strong advocacy on public welfare and development, has lauded Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, for the successful inauguration of five ultramodern transport terminals, the roll-out of 100 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) mass transit buses, and the unveiling of a state-of-the-art transport management system.
In a statement signed by its Project Coordinator, Pastor Adaeze Nweke, the Foundation described the initiative as “a magical landmark intervention that will redefine mobility, boost economic growth, and set a new benchmark for sustainable urban governance in Enugu State.”
“This is visionary leadership in action,” the statement read. “Governor Mbah has demonstrated that with political will, strategic planning, and genuine commitment to the people, government can deliver world-class infrastructure that transforms daily life for millions. This transport revolution is more than a project, it is an economic lifeline, a safety upgrade, and a quality-of-life boost for Ndi Enugu. The scale and speed of this achievement are nothing short of magical, truly a thing of wonder in Nigeria’s development story.”
The Foundation’s commendation came on the heels of the Governor’s historic commissioning of the Holy Ghost Terminals 1 and 2 in Enugu Central, the Nsukka Central Terminal, Abakpa Central Terminal, and Gariki Central Terminal, all equipped with modern facilities such as food courts, banking halls, CNG refilling stations, motels, cinemas, and Nigeria’s longest sky bridge linking Holy Ghost Terminals 1 and 2.
The initiative also includes over 80 modern bus shelters across the state, an e-ticketing platform to eliminate corruption and ensure transparency, and an integrated transport management system designed to connect road, rail, air, and waterways into a single efficient network.
Pastor Nweke particularly hailed the environmental foresight behind the deployment of eco-friendly CNG buses, noting that the move aligns with global efforts to cut carbon emissions while making transportation more affordable.
“By prioritising cleaner energy buses, Governor Mbah has not only addressed urban mobility challenges but also placed Enugu on the map as a forward-looking state ready to embrace climate-conscious development,” she said.
The Foundation noted that the project’s potential to create over 20,000 jobs across transport services, small businesses, and ancillary industries is “a direct boost to household incomes, local entrepreneurship, and state GDP growth.”
It further urged other Nigerian states to study and adopt Enugu’s model, emphasising that the combination of infrastructure, technology, and environmental responsibility offers “a blueprint for modern governance.”
“This project is proof that public transport can be dignified, safe, and accessible while also being a driver of economic transformation,” Pastor Nweke added.
The statement concluded with a pledge by the Foundation to support public sensitisation on the new transport system, especially in educating residents on the benefits of CNG technology, safe commuting practices, and how to maximise the digital ticketing platform.
The Amaka Nweke Foundation’s commendation echoes the sentiments of community leaders, local government chairmen, and industry experts present at the commissioning, many of whom described the feat as “unprecedented in Nigeria’s transport history.”
