...Celebrant Showers Praises on Enugu First Lady as Women Pray for Her and the Governor’s Wife During Colourful Celebration

It was a day of songs, prayers, and gratitude on Friday, July 4, 2025, as the Chairperson of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Enugu State Chapter, and First Lady of Nkanu East Local Government Area, Mrs. Rita Edeh, marked her birthday in a way that brought smiles to the faces of many women, widows, and students at De Dome Event Center, Enugu.

Turning her birthday into a channel of blessing, Mrs. Edeh rolled out an empowerment program that saw women and families return home with essential items including bags of rice, cartons of spaghetti, vegetable oil, tomatoes, noodles, detergents, soap, and kitchen utensils such as microwave ovens. Clothes, wrappers, and Ankara materials were also distributed, ensuring that the celebration extended beyond the venue into the homes of many grateful families.

The event was not only about sharing gifts but also about empowering minds, as a health expert was on ground to sensitize the women on vital healthcare practices, aligning with Mrs. Edeh’s consistent advocacy for women’s well-being and holistic development.

Overflowing with gratitude, Mrs. Edeh thanked Almighty God for adding another year to her life, describing it as a privilege to serve her people and witness the progress of women within the community. She used the occasion to pay glowing tributes to the wife of the Governor of Enugu State, Her Excellency, Mrs. Nkechinyere Mbah, whom she described as a pillar of inspiration for women across the state.

According to Mrs. Edeh, “Her Excellency, Mrs. Nkechinyere Mbah, is a rare mother whose love, compassion, and dedication to the welfare of women and children in Enugu State continue to inspire us. Her programs have transformed lives, promoted girl-child education, and uplifted families across communities. We see her good works, and I, along with many women here, are committed to following her footsteps in service and in championing the cause of women.”

The atmosphere came alive as women, widows, and students took turns to appreciate Mrs. Edeh for her years of consistent philanthropy, recalling how she has supported families in times of need, paid medical bills, and empowered women with skills and resources to sustain their homes even before becoming ALGON Chairperson.

They sang, danced, and poured heartfelt prayers upon Mrs. Edeh and the wife of the Governor, asking God to grant them strength, wisdom, and protection as they continue to advocate for the welfare of women and children in Enugu State.

As the event concluded, the joy was evident on the faces of the beneficiaries as they carried their gifts home, expressing deep appreciation for Mrs. Edeh’s commitment to lifting women and strengthening families, leaving a clear message that leadership is best measured by the lives it touches.
