“One Youth, One Farm” Initiative Takes Center Stage in Pioneering Youth Development Effort
The Youth Assembly of Nigeria (YAN) Enugu State Chapter has embarked on a significant movement to the Ministry of Agriculture Enugu State and was received by Hon. Patrick Nwabueze Uburu the Commissioner for Agriculture, Enugu State. The discussions which centred on making Enugu State the Agricultural hub of the country has a strong emphasis on the Enugu State youths full involvement in many channels available in agricultural sector. The delegation presented a bold proposal for the *"ONE YOUTH, ONE FARM"* initiative, aimed at fostering youth involvement in agricultural activities and providing them with sustainable economic opportunities.
The initiative was formally presented by Hon. Ezenwata Nwangwu, the National Assistant Secretary of the Board of Trustees (BOT) and immediate past National Deputy Speaker of YAN.
Hon. Ezenwata emphasized the importance of engaging youths in agriculture as a way to equip them with practical skills. Thereby reducing unemployment and contributing to the state's agricultural growth which will increase the Enugu State IGR.
In his address, Ambassador Chidubem Ugwueze JP, the Assembly’s Ambassador, urged the Hon. Commissioner and the Enugu State Government to invest more in agricultural training programs for youths. He noted that such training would equip young people with the knowledge and hands-on experience needed to thrive in the agricultural sector, enhancing both their livelihoods and the state's agricultural output.
The Hon. Commissioner for Agriculture, Enugu State, expressed his appreciation for the Assembly's initiative, acknowledging the innovative ideas brought forward for the youth of the state. He highlighted the alignment of the proposal with the vision of His Excellency, Governor Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah’s #TomoroIsHere initiative, which includes various programs designed to improve the lives of youths in Enugu State. The Commissioner also outlined several agricultural initiatives and channels through the Ministry aimed at empowering the youth.
Also present during the visit was Hon. Alhaji Sani, who commended the Assembly for its determination and resilience. He provided foundational advice on the future of agriculture in Nigeria and Enugu State, stressing the importance of agriculture in addressing hunger and solving security challenges. Alhaji Sani encouraged the youths of Enugu State to invest more energy into agricultural endeavors, as they hold the key to economic growth and sustainable development.
Other members of the delegates includes Ugochukwu Onyeachinam, the State Speaker Elect and other Leaders of the 17 L.GAs
This visit underscores the resilience, determination, and unwavering commitment of the Assembly to drive youth empowerment through agriculture and position the state as a leader in youth-driven agricultural development.
