Nkanu West Moves to Develop Ozalla Four Corners Park, Clears Illegal Structures

In a decisive step towards transforming Ozalla Four Corners into a modern transport hub, the Chairman of Nkanu West Local Government Area, Hon. John Ogbodo, has commenced the demolition of illegal structures on waterways to pave the way for the proposed park development. This initiative aligns with Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah’s vision of promoting tourism, enhancing urban infrastructure, and ensuring environmental sustainability across Enugu State.

The demolition exercise follows an earlier government directive mandating property owners and traders to voluntarily remove structures obstructing water channels. At Ozalla Four Corners Express Junction, numerous shops had been constructed over drainage systems, completely blocking the free flow of water and increasing the risk of flooding, particularly during the rainy season.

Late last year, the Nkanu West Local Government issued multiple warnings urging shop owners to comply with environmental regulations by removing illegal structures. While many heeded the call, some failed to take action, necessitating the enforcement now being carried out.

Speaking shortly after the demolition exercise, Hon. Ogbodo, represented by the Nkanu West LG Town Engineer, Engr. Obichukwu Chime, stressed the importance of keeping waterways clear and ensuring compliance with urban planning policies. He advised affected shop owners, traders, and landlords to refrain from erecting illegal structures that could obstruct drainage systems in the future.

Hon. Ogbodo further emphasized that his administration remains committed to the full realization of Ozalla Four Corners Park, a strategic transport hub designed to decongest traffic and improve commercial activities in the area. He reiterated that the park will be developed to meet modern standards, in line with Governor Mbah’s vision for high-quality transport infrastructure across Enugu State.

He expressed appreciation to the shop owners, landlords, traders, and the Ozalla community for their cooperation during the exercise. He also reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to environmental safety, urban renewal, and sustainable development at the grassroots level, ensuring a cleaner, safer, and more organized Nkanu West.

As part of the broader development plan, Hon. Ogbodo disclosed that the Ozalla Four Corners Park will feature state-of-the-art transport facilities, designated loading and offloading bays, modern waiting areas, and adequate security provisions to enhance the comfort and safety of commuters. He assured the public that the project will not only boost economic activities in the region but also create job opportunities for youths and local businesses.

The council chairman urged all stakeholders, including traders, transport operators, and community leaders, to support the government's vision for a well-structured and efficient transport system in Nkanu West. He reiterated that his administration would continue to work in synergy with the state government to ensure that all developmental projects align with the broader goal of making Enugu State a model of progress and sustainability.

Hon. Ogbodo further warned that strict measures will be enforced to prevent future encroachments on public spaces, emphasizing that anyone found violating urban development regulations would face appropriate sanctions. He called on residents to embrace a culture of environmental responsibility and work collectively towards building a more organized and prosperous community.

The council chairman reiterated that his administration remains dedicated to ensuring environmental safety, urban renewal, and sustainable development at the grassroots, fully in line with the governor’s vision for a cleaner, safer, and more attractive Enugu State.
