Iftar, the traditional breaking of fast during the holy month of Ramadan, is a deeply significant spiritual observance in the Islamic religion.

In recognition of this auspicious moment and its spiritual significance, on Tuesday, 4th March 2025, the Executive Chairman of Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area and ALGON Vice Chairman, Enugu State, Barr. Ugo Ferdinand Ukwueze, joined the Muslim community to break their fast. This gesture was a demonstration of his administration’s commitment to enhancing interfaith harmonious coexistence in Igbo-Eze South LGA.

The event, which took place at the Central Mosque, Ibagwa-Aka, brought together Islamic religious leaders, including Prof. Illiyasu Usman Onah, Chief Imam of the National Mosque, Abuja, and a host of Muslim faithful, in an atmosphere of unity and reflection.

In his address, Mayor Ukwueze emphasised the values of tolerance and harmony, acknowledging the immense contributions of the Muslim community in the development of Igbo-Eze South LGA.

"My brothers and sisters of the Muslim faith, we are here today to celebrate you in the value and belief you have been able to sustain to make our society, our native land, a better place. So many things unite us, and the more we journey into life's process, the more we realise that we are more related than we knew. The humanity in us is so bonding that proper understanding can make us share our lives together," he stated.

He further recognised and commended the National Mosque Chief Imam, Prof. Onah, for his acts of humanitarianism to society. "Prof, we are very grateful to you. Not only are you a spiritual religious leader, you are also a fine, refined, industrious, and enviable product of Igbo-Eze South to the world," he added.

Addressing the ALGON Deputy Leader and the congregation of Muslim faithful, Prof. Onah expressed appreciation for the Chairman’s visit, describing it as a special and caring gesture.
