The Foundation for Africa Development Through International Biotechnology (FADIB) successfully held its 30th Annual Conference/Workshop and General Meeting at the Department of Microbiology, University of Nigeria Nsukka,bringing together experts, policymakers, and stakeholders in the field of biotechnology to discuss advancements and emerging trends. The theme of this year’s event was “From the Bench to the Industries”, highlighting the critical transition of research innovations into industrial applications for economic growth and development.
The Honourable Commissioner for Innovation, Science, and Technology, Engr. Prince Lawrence Ezeh, officially declared the event open, emphasizing the crucial role of biotechnology in driving economic growth, healthcare advancements, and food security in Africa. In his remarks, Engr Ezeh reiterated that his ministry is working tirelessly to create an enabling environment for research commercialization, startups and the development of bio-enterpreneurship initiatives under the visionary leadership of the Enugu State Governor, Dr Peter Ndubuisi Mbah.
He commended FADIB for its unwavering commitment to scientific progress and innovation over the past three decades.
In her welcome address, the LOC Chairman, Prof. T.N.T Nwagu expressed gratitude to participants and highlighted the significance of the annual gathering in fostering collaboration, knowledge sharing, and cutting-edge research in biotechnology.
The event featured insightful presentations from distinguished scholars, including Prof. Frank Ogbu, Director, Biotechnology Research Centre, who provided an in-depth analysis of the evolving landscape of biotechnology, emphasizing the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in research and development. *Dr. Blessing Ogbuokiri further expanded on the trends in AI and IT in biotechnology, explaining how technological advancements are revolutionizing genetic research, precision medicine, and bioinformatics.
With the theme "From the Bench to the Industries," the conference/workshop underscored the need to translate scientific discoveries into industrial solutions that address real-world challenges. The event served as a platform for experts to exchange ideas, explore innovative solutions, and chart a course for the future of biotechnology in Africa.
With the participation of leading scientists, researchers, and policymakers, FADIB continues to play a pivotal role in advancing biotechnology for sustainable development on the continent.
