The traders and market leaders of Ogbete Main Market, Enugu, were left in high spirits following the visit of the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Governor on Market Liaison, Hon. Dr. Chinedu Mba, and his team.
He urged the traders to remain committed to their civic responsibilities by paying taxes as and when due and supporting government policies. He also emphasized the importance of using appropriate channels to address their grievances.
Hon. Dr. Chinedu Mba reiterated that the relationship between the government and the people is symbiotic where citizens pay taxes, and the government, in turn, utilizes the funds to provide essential services and development. He stated that his visit to the market was in fulfillment of the social contract between the Governor and the traders during the electioneering campaigns.
In response, the traders and market leaders expressed their appreciation to Governor Peter Mbah for his visible and impactful projects across the state. They pledged to continue complying with tax payments, having seen that their contributions were being used judiciously for the benefit of Ndi Enugu.
They also presented some requests and areas where government intervention would be beneficial, to which the SSA assured them that their concerns would be communicated to the appropriate authorities.
The visit commenced with a courtesy call on the Chairman of Enugu North Local Government, Hon. Dr. Ibenaku Onoh, who commended Hon. Chinedu Mba and his team for their dedication. He assured them of his full cooperation in ensuring the Governor’s vision for market development is effectively executed.
Before leaving, Hon. Dr. Chinedu Mba conducted a tour of Ogbete Main Market to assess the state of the market firsthand.
