The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Enugu State Chapter, celebrated the birthday of His Excellency, Barrister Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, the Executive Governor of Enugu State, on March 17, 2025. The event took place at various orphanage homes and rehabilitation centers, where the governor's compassion for children and those with disabilities was prominently displayed.
This celebration was not only an occasion for giving gifts to orphans and the underprivileged but also aimed to shine a light on their needs within society. The entourage were warmly welcomed by the children and their guardians, who joyfully sang birthday songs and offered prayers for the governor amid cheers and smiles.
During the visit at the Rehabilitation Center Emene, an anonymous staff member expressed gratitude to Governor Mbah, describing him as a Godsend for his remarkable support to the center and the community of Enugu. The staff member prayed for the governor’s continued good health and longevity. Additionally, he extended thanks to the 17 local government council chairmen for their generous distribution of essential items, including rice, garri, and beans, to support the center.
The council chairmen also visited the Family Support Center and the Orphanage Home in GRA, where they were met with joy and excitement from the orphans and their caregivers. Gifts were presented, accompanied by prayers for both the governor and their distinguished guests. Similar scenes unfolded at the Leprosy and Disability Center in Ugwuoba, marking a day filled with compassion and generosity.
In a statement made at the ALGON Secretariat, Chairman Hon. Sydney Okechukwu Edeh reflected on their preference for meaningful acts of kindness over mere social gatherings. He emphasized the importance of uplifting vulnerable members of society through financial and material support.
Edeh commended Governor Mbah for his charismatic leadership and visionary approach, which motivated them to use his special day to bring relief to those in need. He stressed the significance of seizing every opportunity to reach out to the less privileged.
The local government council chairmen, deputies, and secretaries took moments to commend the governor, describing him as an exceptional leader, a goal-getter, and a disruptive innovator. They prayed for wisdom and strength as he continues to lead Enugu State.
The event culminated in a solemn mass conducted by Rev. Fr. Nnaji. In his address, Fr. Nnaji thanked the council chairmen for their remembrance of orphans and less privileged individuals, noting that their actions fulfilled spiritual commands. He prayed fervently for Governor Mbah and the council chairmen, reinforcing the significance of their collective efforts in serving humanity.
