_...As Diasporan Delegation Holds Strategic Meeting with Nsukka Mayor and Council Executives_
Nsukka Local Government Area (LGA) is gearing up for a promising partnership with the South African-based Nsukka Senatorial Zone, South Africa (NSUZA), a diaspora organization that is poised to bring valuable skills, investments, and expertise to the region. NSUZA, led by Rev. Mike Maduabuchi Ugwu, the Ezeonodugo of Nsukkaland, is a vibrant group of professionals and skilled individuals from a wide range of fields who have shown unwavering support for progress in Nsukka.
In a recent strategic meeting at the Nsukka LGA Secretariat, Rev. Ugwu and his delegation met with the Mayor of Nsukka, Hon. Engr. Jude Chinedu Asogwa, to discuss areas of collaboration that will have a far-reaching impact on the community. The discussions focused on key sectors such as infrastructure, health, agriculture, hospitality, and overall community development. Rev. Ugwu expressed his admiration for the Mayor's impressive track record of achievements, particularly highlighting the successful rehabilitation of key roads such as the Adada House road and Odenigbo roundabout.
"I saw for myself your 'talk and do' style of governance, with the Adada House road work which I drove on today and the neat rehabilitation work on Odenigbo roundabout. It is clear that you mean what you say," Rev. Ugwu remarked during the meeting, underscoring his confidence in the Mayor's leadership.
The NSUZA delegation expressed its readiness to support and partner with the Mayor's administration, particularly in the realm of Public-Private Partnerships (PPP). Rev. Ugwu, who also serves as the President of the Enugu State Indigenes Resident in South Africa, is keen to see the partnership help drive significant improvements in Nsukka LGA. His group is determined to contribute to the Mayor's PPP initiative, which has already gained attention for its focus on mobilizing foreign direct investment, including tapping into the resources and expertise of the diaspora community.
The Mayor, in turn, expressed his commitment to leveraging strategic partnerships to foster growth and development in the LGA. He reiterated that his administration is committed to utilizing PPP to attract investments and drive sustainable development. Engr. Asogwa's administration, since its inception, has placed emphasis on collaborating with various stakeholders, both local and international, to enhance Nsukka's prospects.
This commitment to partnership is evident in the administration’s recent success stories, such as the 1.6 km GRA Ring Road project, which is being reconstructed and asphalted, and the significant strides made in improving the security, power, and water resources in Nsukka. The Mayor's team has also worked on enhancing the Nsukka Neighbourhood Watch, providing transformers to the Aku Road Market, and starting the long-awaited electricity project in Ibagwa Agu community—the first of its kind in the community's history.
Rev. Ugwu was particularly impressed with the progress made by the Mayor, noting that the 1.6 km GRA Ring Road project was a vital route that once led to the colonial-era District Officer's office, and is now being rehabilitated to serve the community once again. This development, along with the strategic partnerships in the pipeline, promises to boost Nsukka's infrastructural and economic growth in the coming years.
The meeting between NSUZA and Nsukka LGA marks the beginning of a strong collaborative effort, bringing together the expertise and resources of the South African diaspora community with the vision and leadership of Nsukka's local government. As the two parties prepare to embark on this exciting journey, the potential for positive change and growth in Nsukka is palpable.
The partnership not only signifies the power of collaboration between home-based individuals, diaspora communities, and local government but also highlights the readiness of Nsukka LGA to embrace the resources and ideas of its diaspora population to drive sustainable development. The openness of Mayor Asogwa’s administration, combined with NSUZA’s capacity for involvement, promises to usher in a new era of progress and prosperity for Nsukka.
This partnership is set to be a game-changer, with initiatives already in motion that will span multiple sectors, creating lasting impact for the people of Nsukka and Enugu State as a whole.
