The new General Officer Commanding 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, Enugu, Major-General Oluyemi Thomas Olatoye has assured the people of the state of the preparedness of the security agency in combating crime and criminality within the areas under its jurisdiction.

The new GOC who is also the force Commander joint taskforce south east operation udoka, gave the assurance when he led other senior officers on a courtesy visit to the governor of Enugu state, Dr Peter Mbah.

Our government house correspondent Fred Nnaji reports that the visit was also aimed at seeking areas of collaboration with the state government to address the pockets of security challenges in the state and its environs.

Commending the governor for the huge investment in security to ensure the protection of lives and property of the citizens, Major-General Olatoye acknowledged that no meaningful development thrives in an insecure environment.

The Chief Dragon expressed his avowed determination to rid the state of insecurity and boost economic activities, urging the people to go about their normal businesses.

While welcoming the new GOC to Enugu, the state governor Dr Peter Mbah commended the army for the robust relationship with the state government in its efforts to make Enugu safe haven for all and sundry.

He recalled that his administration upon assumption of office, declared as unacceptable, the Sit-at-home order enforced by non-state-actors, and has formidably remained focused in achieving it.

Dr Mbah assured the army of his administration's continued support by providing the necessary logistics to end criminality in the state, noting that nothing else takes priority over security.
