In the last few months, Hon Okey Mba stands tall for sponsoring people oriented bills at the hallowed chamber of Enugu State house of Assembly with some been passed into law.
Since assuming office, he didn't haste hitting the ground running.
Notable among the bills and motions are, the Motion to End Reckless Driving and Alcohol Abuse During Final-Year Exam Signing-Out Celebrations in our tertiary institutions. Another laudable bill is the recent landlords/agents bill seeking to control the exorbitant agency fees and unnecessary increment in house rents by landlords. This is in response to the growing complaints by residents of Enugu over exorbitant tenants and agencies fees in the state.
The Bill which passed for first reading on February 25, 2025 seeks to address a fundamental aspect of the agency /landlord tenancy law.
The bill will regulate agency and legal fees by fixing both fees at a maximum of 10 per cent as well as abolishing practice of caution fees demanded of tenants by landlords, but never refunded at the end of tenancy.
The bill further seeks that anyone willing to operate as land agent or property manager and other related, be registered and certified by relevant agencies of the government.
Hon Mba is the first legislator of Enugu State house of Assembly to sponsor a private bill since inception of the 8th Enugu state house Assembly with this historic bill.
This bill did not only prove his desire to alleviate the suffering of the people but further prove his seamless and tirelessly efforts to construct a legacy of excellence, integrity, and selfless service, With a deep understanding of the plight of the people and a keen eye for innovative solutions, he has established himself as a master builder of positive change, laying the foundations for a brighter tomorrow.
The fulcrum of his legislative interventions is on the welfare and well-being of the people .
