It was celebration galore as the people of Obeagu village , Ugbawka in Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu State held a civic reception in honour of their son and Nkanu East Council Chairman, Hon Sydney Okechukwu Edeh.
The epoch- making ceremony which took place at the community school Obeagu, Ugbwaka on 3rd January, 2025, was attended by a large gathering of friends, family, and well-wishers, gathered to honour their son chairman.
Hon Sydney Okechukwu incidentally the first indigene of Obeagu , ugbawka to become the Chairman of Nkanu East LGA since its creation. In his response to the encomiums and goodwill messages from political leaders, traditional rulers and well-wishers, thanked God for keeping him alive to see the grand reception in his honour. He praised their kindness, generosity, and commitment to celebrate the achievements of their own.
Hon Edeh further, thanked his friends and family for their unwavering support and encouragement, which he said had motivated him to strive for excellence in his career
The council Boss said, that he veered into politics by providence. He said politics requires patience to succeed and enjoined those looking for anything good to hold on to God. "The honour bestowed on me today is a call to greater service and i promised not to betray the confidence reposed in me by you people, he stated".
He also expressed his profound gratitude to the Governor of Enugu State for finding him worthy to serve and all the support he is giving him which is evident in the works going on at Obeagu and entire Ugbwaka, from road construction on going, to Iyiakpu Bridge, Ojorowo bridge Ugbwaka /Nara, Rural electrification, green smart school, among other state and LGA projects in Ugbwaka. "We thank our leader and brother the Governor for making all this projects possible, i urge you to continue to support and pray for us, said ".
In the their separate speeches, the leaders of Obeagu said they were grateful to God that a son of Obeagu is now the Chairman of Nkanu East LGA and expressed joy that it happened during their time. They equally thank the governor for remembering them and promised to continue to support his government.
Also speaking, Hon Uche okolo, Awgu local government council, Chairman and ALGON secretary Enugu State, member representing Nkanu East at the Enugu State House of Assembly, Hon Okey Mbah among other dignitaries that spoke, applauded Obeagu people for organizing such historic event in Hon of their son whom they described as asset to the people of Obeagu and entire Ugbwaka.
The council chairman was accompanied to the event the first lady of Nkanu East, Hon Mrs Rita Edeh, Hon Uche okolo Awgu LGA chairman, Hon Okey Mbah, member representing Nkanu East at the Enugu State House of Assembly, Hon Anthony Nwankwo, member representing Awgu south at Enugu State house of Assembly, Executive Secretary Enugu State Gaming Commission, Hon Prince Arinze Arum, Hon Patrick Okoh, state Treasurer PDP, Hon prince Onuoha,Among others.
