The Chairman of Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area and Deputy Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Enugu State, Hon. Barr. Ugo Ferdinand Ukwueze, has visited Mrs. Echegi Loveth Chinonso, a victim of a brutal domestic violence attack by her husband, Echegi Sunday Onyeayanachi.
During the attack, which took place at Ibagwa-Agu in Nsukka LGA, Mrs. Chinonso suffered severe injuries, including the brutal amputation of one of her hands. She was rushed to Kaetochukwu Hospital and Maternity in Nsukka before being transferred to the Enugu State University Teaching Hospital (ESUTH) Parklane for more advanced treatment.
During his visit, Hon. Ukwueze provided the victim with an immediate financial donation of ₦200,000 to assist with her medical expenses, while arrangements are underway with the Ministry of Gender Affairs, Enugu State for further care of the victim. He also encouraged her to remain calm and focus on her recovery, assuring her of his constant support and regular check-ins on her progress.
The perpetrator, Echegi Sunday Onyeayanachi, has been arrested in Nsukka and has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Enugu for further investigation and arraignment.
Mrs. Echegi Loveth Chinonso, from Itchi-Agu in Igbo-Eze South LGA, has been married to Echegi Sunday Onyeayanachi, a native of Ibagwa-Ani, Nsukka LGA, since 2019. The couple, who have two children together, lived in Ibagwa-Agu at the time of the tragic incident.
The brutal attack has sparked widespread outrage, drawing attention to the need for more decisive action against domestic violence. Hon. Ukwueze’s visit speaks volumes of his dedication to supporting victims of domestic violence and ensuring the welfare of his people within and outside Igbo-Eze South.
