BREAKING: Enugu State Govt Raises Alarm Over Bird Flu Threat, Implements Preventive Measures (Details)

The Enugu State Government has issued an urgent public service announcement regarding an outbreak of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI), commonly known as bird flu, which has recently been reported in Kano State. This outbreak is affecting various bird species, including layers, ducks, guinea fowl, and turkeys.

As the disease continues to spread within Nigeria, there is a significant concern about its potential transmission to neighboring states, including Enugu. To mitigate the risk of an outbreak in Enugu State and to protect both public health and the poultry industry, the Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-Industrialization has outlined several key preventive measures:

1. Awareness and Sensitization: The Ministry is stepping up efforts to educate poultry farmers, traders, and the general public on the risks of HPAI and the critical steps to prevent its spread.

2. Surveillance and Monitoring: Surveillance teams have been deployed across poultry farms and markets to monitor for any unusual signs or outbreaks. Residents are encouraged to report any sudden bird deaths or symptoms resembling HPAI to the Ministry or local veterinary personnel immediately.

3. Biosecurity Measures: Poultry stakeholders are urged to maintain strict biosecurity protocols, including proper sanitation and monitoring for any signs of the disease. Any suspicions should be reported without delay to prevent further spread.

The Enugu State Government emphasizes the importance of collective vigilance to ensure the safety of both human and animal health in the state. The Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-Industrialization has assured that they are closely monitoring the situation and are committed to taking all necessary steps to protect the public and the state's poultry industry.

For more information or to report any suspicious cases, please contact the Ministry directly.

Thank you for your cooperation.
