BREAKING: Barr Uche Succeeds Late Iwuanyanwu to Emerge President-General Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide

Chief Barr. Uche Chwukwu has been elected as the President-General of Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide, marking a historic achievement as the first Ikwerre man to hold this esteemed position. The election took place on January 10, 2025, following the death of Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, who had represented Imo State. Rivers State had been selected to host the next President-General, leading to the election of Okwukwu.

The election followed a previous controversial vote on January 5, 2025, where a factional body of Ohaneze Ndigbo declared Chief Dr. Jackson Omenazu as President. However, the majority of members rejected this election, affirming January 10 as the legitimate date for electing a new leader.

Okwukwu's rise is seen as a significant milestone for the Ikwerre people and a step towards fostering unity among Ndigbo worldwide, particularly addressing historical grievances over the Ikwerre people’s treatment during the Nigerian Civil War. His leadership is expected to promote reintegration and unity for Igbo-speaking communities, particularly those in the South-South and northern Nigeria.
