In a bid to bolster security within the Local Government Area, an expanded security meeting was convened today at the Udenu Local Government Secretariat. The meeting was presided over by the Executive Chairman, Akachukwu Eze Akachukwu. Aimed at restructuring the local security apparatchik, the meeting saw the attendance of key security stakeholders, including the Area Commander of Nigeria Police Udenu, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Obollo Afor Police Division, and the Leader of the Udenu Neighborhood Watch Security Outfit, Mr. Onyekachi Ezeme.
The Council engaged in extensive deliberations focusing on the enhancement and realignment of the Udenu Neighborhood Watch Security Outfit. A critical aspect of the meeting was the inventory exercise conducted to assess the resources available to the security outfit. This inventory encompassed a detailed evaluation of arms, ammunition, vehicles, motorcycles, and other operational assets within the Neighborhood Watch.
As part of the resolutions adopted during the meeting, the Council deemed it necessary to implement a minor reshuffle in the leadership of the Neighborhood Watch. This decision was aimed at injecting fresh ideas and vigor into the Outfit’s operations to ensure optimal performance in maintaining peace and security within the local government.
Following the deliberations, Mr. Ugwu Peter Nwanosike was appointed as the new Leader of the Udenu Neighborhood Watch Security Outfit, replacing Mr. Onyekachi Ezeme. This leadership transition was seen as a strategic move to reinforce the security framework of the local government.
A brief but formal handover ceremony was held immediately after the announcement, during which Mr. Nwanosike officially assumed office. In his remarks, Mr. Nwanosike expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and pledged to work diligently to improve the security situation in Udenu. He also extended appreciation to his predecessor, Mr. Ezeme, for his dedication and contributions during his tenure.
Speaking during the meeting, Akachukwu Eze reaffirmed the commitment of the Local Government to ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents. He emphasized the importance of synergy among security agencies, Local authorities, and Community-based outfits like the Neighborhood Watch in addressing security challenges.
The Executive Chairman also called on Community members to remain vigilant and cooperate with security operatives by reporting suspicious activities promptly. He assured them of the local government’s readiness to provide necessary support to security agencies and the Neighborhood Watch to ensure a crime-free environment.
The meeting marks a significant step in the ongoing efforts to strengthen Udenu’s security framework. With this appointment and the comprehensive evaluation of resources, the Local Government has demonstrated its proactive approach to addressing security concerns. Residents are optimistic that these measures will translate into enhanced peace and security across the local government area.
