SAD! 2 Female Students of Lokoja Varsity, Kogi Poly Perish In Road Accident

Tragedy struck in Lokoja on Friday morning as two female students from the Federal University Lokoja (FUL) and Kogi State Polytechnic lost their lives in a devastating road accident along the Felele axis of the state capital.


The incident involved a heavily loaded articulated vehicle traveling toward Abuja that lost control and collided with a tricycle, commonly known as Keke NAPEP, which was carrying passengers toward the main town. Sources confirmed that the victims were among four passengers in the tricycle. While two other passengers sustained severe injuries, the two students succumbed to the impact of the crash.


At the scene, an identification card belonging to Covenant Omolola Isaac, a student of the Department of Geology at the Federal University Lokoja, was recovered. The second victim, Taiwo Abimbola, was identified by her colleagues as a Higher National Diploma (HND) student in Science Laboratory Technology at Kogi State Polytechnic.


Officers from the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) arrived at the scene and quickly rushed the injured survivors to the State Specialist Hospital in Lokoja for urgent medical attention.


The National Association of Science Laboratory Technology (Kogi State Polytechnic chapter) confirmed Taiwo Abimbola's death in a condolence statement issued by its President, Akor Kelvin. The statement described Abimbola as a beloved and inspiring member of their community, highlighting her kindness, dedication, and passion for education. The association vowed to honor her memory with a tribute and memorial service.


This tragic incident has deeply affected both academic institutions and the wider Lokoja community, as they mourn the loss of two promising young lives.
