Nsukka LGA Environmental Taskforce Committee Commences Sanitation Awareness; "Keep Nsukka Clean"

Crystal Palace Estate

In a bid to enhance the cleanliness and hygiene of our beloved Nsukka, the Environmental Taskforce Committee has initiated a Sanitation Awareness campaign. This initiative aims to engage the community actively in maintaining a clean environment, which is essential for our health and well-being. The committee emphasizes the importance of individual responsibility in keeping our surroundings clean, and we urge all residents and shop owners to participate fully in this endeavor.

As part of this campaign, we are issuing a demand notice for all residents to open up gutters in front of their shops and houses from November 26th to December 9th, 2024. This two-week period, following the inauguration of the committee, is crucial for ensuring that our drainage systems are free from blockages that can lead to flooding and other environmental hazards. By taking this simple step, we can collectively improve the drainage in our community and prevent potential disasters.

Moreover, we must address the issue of indiscriminate dumping of refuse in gutters and waterways. It is imperative that everyone makes use of waste bins to dispose of their waste properly. This practice not only keeps our environment clean but also protects our waterways from pollution. The committee is committed to educating the public on the importance of proper waste disposal and the long-term benefits it brings to our community.

To enforce these guidelines, defaulters who fail to comply with the sanitation directives will attract a fine of 50,000 Naira, payable into the Nsukka Local Government Account. Please note that cash payments will not be accepted, and it is essential to adhere to this rule to avoid penalties. We believe that this measure will encourage compliance and foster a culture of cleanliness among residents.

We call upon every citizen of Nsukka to join hands in promoting a healthier and safer environment for all. Together, we can make a significant impact on our community's cleanliness and sustainability. Let us take pride in our environment and work collectively towards a cleaner Nsukka.
