The Rivers State High Court in Port Harcourt has invalidated the Local Government and State Congresses conducted by the Tony Okocha-led faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state. The congresses, which were held in violation of an existing court order, saw the inauguration of new executives on December 14, 2024, by APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje.

The legal challenge was brought by party members who claimed they were excluded from the congress process despite fulfilling all required financial obligations. The court's ruling has raised significant political questions about the leadership and internal processes of the APC in Rivers State.

The development comes amid a broader series of legal battles and controversies within Nigerian politics, highlighting the ongoing tensions within the APC and its regional chapters.
