PRESS STATEMENT OF APPRECIATION AND GRATITUDE

Date: 15th December 2024

From: Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD) Enugu State Chapter

We, the Enugu State Disability Community, are filled with immense gratitude as we express our heartfelt appreciation to the Executive Governor of Enugu State, Rt. Hon. Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, for his inspiring pronouncement on the establishment of the Enugu State Disability Commission, which will be established before the end of the first quarter of 2025.

This historic declaration was made on Saturday, 14th December 2024, at the Old Government Lodge in Enugu during the Governor’s regular Town Hall meeting with Ndi-Enugu. The Governor’s response followed the concerns raised by Comrade Onyebuchi Mba, the Chairman of Enugu State JONAPWD, regarding the 2023 Enugu State Discrimination Against Persons With Disabilities Prohibition Law.

This announcement marks a significant milestone in our ongoing quest for inclusivity and equal opportunities for persons with disabilities. We commend Governor Mbah for his commitment to inclusive governance, ensuring that persons with disabilities are granted equal access to the rights and opportunities they deserve. We also acknowledge his efforts in commemorating the 2024 International Day of Persons with Disabilities, a gesture made possible through the collaborative efforts of the Ministry of Gender Affairs and Social Development.

Governor Peter Mbah’s approach to governance, marked by his innovative and forward-thinking policies, is a testament to his dedication to a future where no one is left behind. His “tomorrow is here” ideology continues to drive transformative change in Enugu State.

We would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to Hon. Ngozi Enih, the Commissioner for Children, Gender Affairs and Social Development, for her unwavering commitment and tireless advocacy for the disability community since her assumption of office. Her support has been invaluable in our journey towards inclusivity.

We encourage the disability community to remain resilient and focused on building a sustainable future for ourselves and our children. Let us continue to support our Governor and those in authority in our prayers as they work tirelessly to improve our lives.

Once again, we thank our Governor, a true father figure and disability-friendly leader, whose dedication to creating a more inclusive and sustainable Enugu State for all is evident.

Long live Enugu State! Long live Rt. Hon. Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah! Long live Hon. Ngozi Enih!

Indeed, our tomorrow is here in Enugu State!

I could remember your commitment towards Persons With Disabilities during your campaign. During this courtesy visit by National Disability Support Forum For Good Governance in your residential home where we submitted to you the challenges and the need for political inclusion of PWDs right there, you promised us of inclusive governance.

This massage of inclusion brought a new hope within the disabled community in Enugu. However, during the just concluded Town hall meeting you have made it clear of establishing Disability Commission in the first quarter 2025 in order to promote participatory democracy.

Here with us is the DG. Chief Ikeje Asogwa,PDP Campaign Council with His Excellency Barr. DR. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah . On 30th of January 2023.

By the special grace of God it shall surely end in praise.
