The immediate past Governor of Enugu State, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, was among five distinguished individuals honored with the prestigious 'Papal Honour' as Knights of the Order of St. Gregory the Great in the Civil Division. This notable recognition, bestowed for their exceptional contributions to the Church and the Catholic cause in Enugu State and beyond, took place on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at the Holy Ghost Cathedral in Enugu.
The Papal honor was conferred upon Ugwuanyi by Pope Francis through the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Enugu, Most Rev. Callistus Onaga. The award acknowledges Ugwuanyi’s immense support and significant contributions to the welfare and growth of the Catholic Church.
The event was marked by an outpouring of congratulations from well-wishers, celebrating Ugwuanyi as a God-fearing, peace-loving, humble, compassionate, kind-hearted, people-friendly, hardworking, and visionary leader. His efforts in public service have earned him this spiritually rewarding recognition, which serves as a source of inspiration to others.
During the ceremony, the Church urged Rt. Hon. Ugwuanyi and the other recipients of the Papal Honors to focus on deeds rather than words, advising them to "speak less and do more for the Lord," with the reminder that "He is watching."
