A Magistrate Court in Ibadan has ordered the detention of three individuals connected to the deadly stampede that occurred at Bashorun Islamic High School last week. The court remanded Mr. Abdullahi Fasasi, the school principal; Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat, the proprietor of Agidigbo FM; and Naomi Silekunola, the estranged wife of the Ooni of Ile-Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi.
Chief Magistrate Olabisi Ogunkanmi directed that the trio be held at the Agodi Correctional Centre. The charges against them stem from allegations under Section 324 of the Criminal Code. These include conspiracy, acceleration of death, negligent acts causing harm, and failure to provide adequate security and medical facilities during the tragic incident, which took place during a children’s funfair at the school.
The accused individuals were arraigned on Tuesday before Chief Magistrate Court 1, Iyaganku, Ibadan. Supporters and relatives gathered outside the court as the proceedings unfolded under tight security.
The suspects will remain in custody pending further advice from the state prosecutor.
