2025 Appropriation: Nkanu East LGA Chairman, Hon Sydney Okechukwu Edeh presents over 4billion Naira Budget to legislative council


As part of his statutory responsibility, Nkanu East LGA chairman and ALGON Chairman Enugu State, Hon Sydney Okechukwu Edeh Local,  has presented budget of four billion, five hundred and eighty million Naira (4,580,000.000)  for the year 2025 fiscal year at the legislative chambers of Nkanu East council headquarters on December 30, 2024, for consideration and approval. The 2025 budget estimate was divided into recurrent expenditure of N 2,483,030.000, 000 and capital expenditure of 2,096,970,000,000. 

The Chairman, during the presentation, said the 2025 budget, tagged, ” BUDGET OF CONTINUITY  AND ADVANCEMENT” was designed towards improving the socio-economic growth and development of the Local Government Area, as well, provides more social amenities to the people to fulfill his electoral promises by commencing new projects and fast-track the completion of all ongoing projects to improve the standard of living within the Local government area. He further said  the budget presentation exercise is an opportunity to review the journey so far, chart the way forward and set a benchmark for better performance to take Nkanu East Local Government to greater heights.

"Distinguished Honourable members, Great people of Nkanu East, ladies and gentlemen of the press, I therefore, beg your attention as we present our budget of continuity and advancement for 2025. We have celebrated our victory at the polls and now is the time for us to creatively and laboriously translate our victory into commendable benefit for our people as dividend of good governance,he stated."

" The call for greater understanding and harmonious working relationship is apt here. I hereby solicit for accelerated consideration and passage of this all important budget estimates for more progress and development of our land,

It should be noted that there should be genuine need for leadership of the two arms of government to work closely to attain our desired goals in service to humanity. This is the time for prudence and the elimination of leakages. Therefore, transparency, objectivity and accountability should be our watchwords, he said ". 

  He assured that the budget will focus on results that will be of benefits to the people of ndị Nkanu East local government, noting that the budget has inbuilt mechanisms to enhance implementation.

The Council boss, expressed his sincere appreciation to Almighty God for His grace to witness the event, while he equally commended the efforts of His Excellency, Barr Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, Executive Governor of Enugu State, for his laudable and innovative projects  in the state. He emphasized that the governor's commitment to development of the state has made good governance easy and making dividends of democracy  evenly spread across the state.

   He also appreciated the cooperation of the legislative and other political functionaries, the Head of the Local Government Administration  and all members of staff towards the success and upliftment of the Local Government. 

In his  speech, the leader of the legislative council, Hon Ikechukwu Ani , appreciated God Almighty and everyone present for the opportunity to witness this year’s budget.

He further stressed that a budget in any organization is a working tool that is used in guiding income and expenditure to achieve a target goal.

He assured the Executive Chairman ,  that the Honourable House will not hesitate to pass the bill into law , to ensure its proper implementation to achieve the dynamic aim of good governance for the progress of the entire people Nkanu East Local Government.

Meanwhile,  the motion for adoption of the appropriation bill was moved by the Majority Leader of the house, Hon. Francis Nwankwo and seconded by Hon Percy Ogbu the Deputy majority leader. 

The event had in attendance, the Vice Chairman, Hon Paul Okwor , Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Rev Felix Okoye , former Secretary to the local government Hon Nnaemeka Nnamene , Hon Ifebuche Igwe former supervisor for works Nkanu East, Hod, planning,research and statistics PRS to the council, Hon Kingsley Monday Eneh. PhD, among other dignitaries.
