NKANU EAST COUNCIL BOSS EXPRESSES COMMITMENT TO SKILLS ACQUISITION AMONGST YOUTHS.

 




To alleviate poverty and reduce the fruitless search for unavailable white-collar jobs among youths, the executive chairman of Nkanu East Local Government area , Hon. Sydney Okechukwu Edeh has reinstated his commitment to reduce unemployment among youths of his council through vocational education /skills acquisition and empowerment programmes .


Hon Edeh, made this pledge during graduation program for skill acquisition program organized by tomorrow is here initiative under the office of commissioner for Youth and sports Enugu State . 

He noted that an idle hand is the devil’s workshop,  it would be difficult for anybody who is engaged with one vocational skill or the other to think of perpetuating crime or violence in the community.He stated that, apart from building infrastructure which has been the major goal of his administration , empowering youths and women for self-reliance is also part of the council’s responsibility.

He commended His Excellency Barr Peter Ndubuisi Mbah led government for supporting Enugu youths through skill acquisition and other empowerment initiatives. The vocation/skill acquisition programmes, is the  initiative of ministry of youth and sports  under Hon Lyiod Ekweremadu, open to all the youths in Enugu  and organized at various LGA headquarters. 


"Graduates are seeking for jobs instead of becoming employers of labour. As you complete this two weeks workshop, remember that what you’ve learned is just the beginning, It’s time to leverage technology, expand your skills, and make yourself useful. As you finish this training, take intentional steps to brand and market yourselves, Many of you traveled far for this training don't let the opportunity be in vain, he stated ". 

In his remarks, the Commissioner for youth and sports Hon Lloyd Ekweremadu said that the training would equip participants with hands-on experience in modern perfume, bakery making, among other things.


He said that to achieve zero poverty mandate of His Excellency Barr Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, critical skill development among youths is sacrosanct . It is in this direction that we embarked on this initiative  across LGAs in Enugu State. He thanked the Chairman for his massive support and commitments throughout the training period.

"I must say that this is the best support I have seen since this program started, you are truly leading from the front as the ALGON Chairman, once again thank you very much, Mr chairman, he said".


The highlight of the occasion was the presentation of prizes to participates that performed very well.

Miss Ngọzi Edeh from Nkerefi took overall best position, while Agunwa Michael and Elochukwu uzochi came 2nd and 3rd position respectively.

The chairman also rewarded additional 10 persons, 2 per development center just to encourage their commitment and dedication to the program.

They were empowered take off grants and equipments. 


In attendance were the Deputy chairman of Nkanu East LGA Hon Paul Okwor, Hon Emeka Christopher Agwu council Ihuokpara ward, who represented leader of the legislative council, former Nkanu East SLG Hon Emeka Nnamene, the Coordinator tomorrow is here initiative, Hon promise Ikejiofor, 

The team of facilitators from Portals house was led by Mrs Ngozi Okechuwu.
