Baltasar Engonga, the Director of Equatorial Guinea’s National Agency for Financial Investigation (ANIF), has broken his silence following allegations linking him to a sex scandal involving high-ranking individuals in the country, including relatives of President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo. The scandal reportedly surfaced during a fraud investigation targeting Engonga, with authorities allegedly finding over 400 explicit videos on his computer.
The recordings, which include prominent figures from Equatorial Guinea’s elite, have ignited a public outcry and led to scrutiny of Engonga’s role as a key anti-corruption official. Among those reportedly depicted in the videos are close relatives of the president, raising questions about privacy, ethics, and accountability within the government.
Addressing the scandal on social media platform X, Engonga dismissed the videos as fabrications, claiming they were created using AI technology to damage his reputation. He attributed the allegations to “enemies” who, he said, are determined to bring him down. Furthermore, Engonga refuted rumors linking one of the alleged victims to a recent suicide, calling the claims baseless.
The scandal has disrupted Equatorial Guinea's political landscape, casting doubts on the integrity of some of the nation’s most powerful officials. Despite being taken into custody as the investigation unfolds, Engonga has maintained his innocence, stating he is committed to clearing his name.
He reassured his family, publicly affirming his loyalty to his wife and six children, describing his family as his “everything” and expressing deep gratitude for his wife’s unwavering support.
