Murder of Traditional Music Crooner, Okezie Nwamba aka Igbo Jah, Trigger Happy Cop Arrested and Detained.

A tragic incident involving the alleged murder of renowned Enugu-based traditional Ogene musician, Okezie Chikezie Mba, also known as Igbo-Jah, has shaken the community. The Enugu State Police Command has confirmed the arrest and detention of a police inspector from the Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad in connection with the incident, which took place on the evening of October 25, 2024.


According to initial reports, Igbo-Jah was leaving the Tactical Squad's Headquarters around 8:10 p.m. after a casual visit when he was shot by the police officer for reasons that remain unclear. The musician was immediately transported to a nearby hospital, where medical personnel confirmed his death. His body has since been taken to the mortuary for preservation and an autopsy.


In response to this tragic event, Commissioner of Police (CP) Kanayo Uzuegbu has ordered a thorough investigation, directing the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to ensure swift and appropriate disciplinary action against the accused officer. CP Uzuegbu expressed profound regret over the incident, emphasizing its severity and reiterating the commitment of the Enugu State Police Command to uphold accountability.


CP Uzuegbu extended his condolences to the family, friends, and supporters of the late musician, describing the incident as a deeply unfortunate occurrence that will not go unaddressed. He assured the public that those found responsible will face the full force of the law, aiming to deter similar actions in the future.


The Commissioner further urged the community, especially those connected to the late musician, to remain calm and support the investigative process, affirming the police's dedication to achieving justice in this case.
