In a tragic incident, ten people lost their lives while seven others sustained injuries following the collapse of a building in the early hours of Thursday in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State. The incident, which occurred around 2 a.m., took place in the Jegeda Oluloyo area of Ona Ara Local Government Area.
According to a statement from the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, the agency responded to an emergency call reporting the collapse. Rescue teams swiftly mobilized and arrived on-site, where they recovered ten deceased victims from the rubble and rescued seven others who were still alive. As of the latest updates, rescue efforts remain ongoing to search for any additional survivors or casualties trapped under the debris.
The General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Services, Yemi Akinyinka, confirmed the fatalities. He stated, “We received a distress call from the neighborhood at 2 a.m. When we arrived, ten individuals had died. Three bodies were recovered before our team arrived, and four more were located during our operation. Our personnel are still on the ground, working diligently in the ongoing rescue operation.”
