In a strategic move to enhance security across Nigeria, the Police Service Commission (PSC) on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, approved the redeployment of senior police officers to key state commands. This shake-up saw the posting of four Commissioners of Police (CPs) to lead various state commands, as part of efforts to strengthen law enforcement in the country.
According to a statement issued by Ikechukwu Ani, Head of Press and Public Relations of the PSC, the decision was ratified by the Chairman of the Commission, DIG Hashimu Argungu. The following are the key redeployments:
CP Abaniwonda Olufemi has been moved from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command to head the Delta State Command. His return to Delta is expected to bring significant leadership to the command in addressing ongoing security challenges.
CP Peter Ukachi Opara has finally been deployed to the Cross River State Command. His experience in various police roles is anticipated to bolster efforts in curbing crime in the state.
CP Mustapha Mohammed Bala, formerly of Katsina State, will now assume command in Rivers State. His posting comes at a time when the state is grappling with complex security issues that require strong leadership.
CP Gyogon Augustine Grimah, who was stationed in Nasarawa State, has been redeployed to oversee the Kaduna State Command. With Kaduna facing both urban and rural security threats, his expertise is considered crucial for stabilizing the region.
The PSC stated that these postings have already been conveyed to the Inspector-General of Police for immediate implementation, ensuring a swift transition in leadership across the affected commands. The redeployments are part of the ongoing efforts by the commission to reposition the Nigeria Police Force for better efficiency in safeguarding lives and property across the nation.
This move comes as part of broader efforts by the PSC to respond to emerging security challenges, with expectations that the new commissioners will bring fresh strategies to tackle criminal activities in their respective commands.
