BREAKING: APC Suspends Tinubu’s Minister

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State has announced the suspension of several prominent party members, including the Minister of State for Petroleum, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, and the party’s 2019 governorship candidate, David Lyon, over allegations of anti-party activities and factionalism.

The suspensions were initiated by the APC executives in Ekeremor and Southern Ijaw Local Government Areas, where the affected members were accused of undermining the party’s interests. In Ekeremor LGA, the APC Chairman, Mitin Eniekenemi, confirmed the suspension of Senator Lokpobiri along with the Bayelsa State Commissioner for Power, Engr. Karin Kumoko. According to Eniekenemi, the decision was the result of findings from a disciplinary committee set up in line with Article 21.3(1) of the APC Constitution.

Similarly, the APC executives in Southern Ijaw LGA suspended David Lyon, along with the Bayelsa State Commissioner for Lands and Survey, Barr. Peres Biewari, and six other members for alleged gross misconduct and involvement in anti-party activities. These suspensions primarily stemmed from their alleged actions during the 2020 Bayelsa State bye-election, where they were accused of undermining the party's efforts.

The APC leadership emphasized that investigations are still ongoing, and further revelations regarding other members involved in anti-party activities are expected as inquiries are concluded.

This development marks a significant shake-up in the Bayelsa chapter of the APC, potentially impacting the party's internal cohesion ahead of future elections.
